A few years ago we found a tall hill in the Truckhaven side of Ocotillo Wells and decided to place a park style BBQ at the top. The BBQ was initially in my dads backyard when he bought his house and as we were digging it out we laughed about the idea of finding a spot in the desert to place it. Well since our next trip out a few weeks later was to Ocotillo Wells for New Years, we decided to just do it. I cleaned it up a little and welded on the back “Burns BBQ New Years 2016”.
Now every time we go out there, we make sure to bring some charcoal and stuff to BBQ. Normally it’s kind of annoying to not have a place to set your stuff down while you are cooking, so last time we were out we brought a small folding table to use. That sparked the idea of making a table to permanently place a table up there next to the BBQ.

Yesterday I made the table out of some 1/8” plate and a 2 x .25” tube. It came out pretty good for something that’s just gonna sit in the desert for who knows how long. The plan is to place it up there this coming New Years trip.

Pretty cool. I am guessing the stories behind phone booth and the basketball court out there are similar.
Yeah we actually used to go riding with the guys that put in the phone booth. They strapped in on a Suzuki Samurai back in the early 2000’s. We met them shortly after, but would go there every time we would go riding out there with them. Idk about the basketball court. There are a ton of things out there now.
Tether ball court, street signs, fire hydrants, another BBQ, some plaques, an American Flag, a fake trailer park. I think the Phone Booth was one of the originals. It’s gone now though.

Shit I just stumbled across the mailbox last trip out. The trail up to it was sick. Care to share coordinates @AssBurns in pm
Share the coordinates for the mailbox. I don’t think I’ve been there yet.
Feel free to share the coordinates of the BBQ. Attached is the GPX file too. Altitude is way off though .

I’ve neven been out that way .. what type of wheeling is there
Truckhaven consist of washes and hundreds of slot canyons big enough for one rig. Some of them are easy, some will put you on your lid. The whole area is a playground, you need to see it to really understand how much good wheeling is there

On the Truckhaven side, it's just giant mud hills for miles and miles. In the mud hills are a bunch of washes and canyons to fuck around in. Also there are some badass notches out there that are anything from being small enough to drive over it, to being large enough that you can drive through them like a little canyon that's just wide enough for a vehicle. Some of them are over 10ft deep. It can get pretty gnarly! On the Ocotillo side it's mostly flat with some mud hills mixed in. There are a lot of high speed washes to play around in for miles and miles. We like to go explore places, then find washes to see how fast we can make it back to camp.

A few pics from over the years. There is so much more than what’s in the pics.
