Berdoo has a gate too.

Only been that way once so I wasn't sure. If they actually close the gates that pretty much limits access. You can get around the Thermal Gate, but I probably wouldn't suggest it. No way around the Old Dale Gate. It's cliff on one side and wall on the other pretty much. Sounds like they're going to open it back up though.

Society fucking sucks. We were having this conversation on TW in the Death Valley thread about how people feel so fucking entitled that they only care about themselves. It's these same people that are trashing the national parks right now in droves because nobody is looking over their shoulders.

Berdoo's gate is were the sign used to be when you pass all the shooting spots and the hill narrow down the trail. They replaced the old gate a few yrs ago with a bigger one cause the old one you can tell people have yanked it open.

I honestly think it's this whole overland fad, it's made all the parks more widely notice on all social media and people are just fuckin stupid like you said......."PEOPLE = SHIT" Slipnkot

I’d say Social Media in general. The number of people aware of scenic places in general has exploded.

I run the blade guard with cutting disks along with gloves and glasses. Too sketchy.
I rarely run a guard but gloves and glasses for sure. I prefer a face shield over the glasses too

Safety glasses, face shield, appropriate sleeves and gloves. I’ve seen so much gnarly shit at work that wearing these things even at home is second nature. All it takes is one second and your fucked for life

Well part of the problem is a lot of these places have management that want these places to gain popularity, so they earn more money. It’s sucks for people like us that want to enjoy it by ourselves, but it’s great for the people running it (when there is someone there to run it)

I usually just try to wear long sleeve shirts when I’m working with metal. Keeps me cleaner too.

But yeah it’s crazy how dangerous some of these tools are. I’ve been very lucky with my “learn the hard way” lessons. Nothing more than some cuts, but I’ve learned enough to take it seriously.

Lest we forget. Runaway diamond tipped cutoff wheel. Left a scar even if it didn't cut me wide open.

And honestly, I've had way better luck cutting shit off with a standard cutoff wheel. Before and after that happened. They're just easier to control and the fact they burn down or disintegrate probably helps keep them from jumping as much as that diamond tipped wheel did. I'd rather replace a wheel 10x than risk that happening again.

I wish I took a picture of the fresh gaping hole wound from having dripping molten metal land on my leg while using the plasma cutter. Using slip-on cowboy style boots helps protect the lower area of my legs.

I just bought my first diamond wheel. Have yet to use it, but I will get some practice cuts in with it. Luckily, the Milwaukee cordless angle grinder only spins at 8500 RPM, so it takes more finesse while using it and it gets stopped if you use too much force.

I've got a Makita angle grinder that I typically use and it's fairly easy to control, but man that diamond tipped blade takes some legit finesse. Probably didn't help I was upside down working on metal that just didn't want to cut.
