This little hump is where I rub on hard bottom outs. I’d try to hit it with a BFH if you can before you weld it all together.

Very new to welding. As in I've only ever welded scrap for fun and it turned out as you would expect. Borrowing my neighbor's Hobart for this project this weekend. Will flux core suffice or would it be worthwhile tracking down the gas set up?

I like the look of those, especially the fact they have siping. The KM2s with no siping were a little wild on the icy roads a couple weeks ago. I didn't like the feedback I was getting, even in AWD.
I like them! Ran great in superstition! The siping isn’t very deep though... quite a bit more affordable too! I’m happy!

Some siping is better than none. Be nice to see how well they last as you put miles on them. My KM2s are all damned near brand new so I won't be swapping them out anytime soon.

Track down the gas and get the thinnest wire you can find. I never welded before I tubbed my rig either. I did the fronts with .035 flux core and it sucked ass. I also used a bunch of steel stick to fill in all the places I blew through and make me not look like such a rookie. lol

Luckily I traded @AssBurns some CV's for him welding up the rears. He used gas and .025 wire and it was so much better looking then the shit I did. Granted, he's layed a few welds but the wire was a huge part of it.

Here's my not so handy work:

If you weld sheet metal with flux core, you are gonna have a bad time.

I’ve done a lot of sheet metal work with .035” wire on MIG (gas), and it pretty much sucked. I picked up some .023” wire and it made a huge difference in welding sheet metal. It’s still not super easy to weld really thin stuff, but it is absolutely worth picking up gas and thinner wire.

Are you running a body lift?

Hmm, wondering if I can get away with just some BFH work and my 1" body lift for 35s.

Possibly. 1 to 1 1/2" body lift tends to be the norm on the 4th gen side for the mall crawlers who don't want to cut up their fenders. At this point I'm debating a 1/2" BL just to keep my wheels out of my wheel well and because I need new bolts/bushings anyway. Would be better than putting bump stop spacers in and limiting my up travel in the front.

I was about to say, quit hitting the like button and reply with something productive. :bash:

If I have to tub then so be it, but if I can get away without it, why the heck not.

I'm not a fabrication guy so I can't help too much on this kind of stuff. I'll never tub my wheel wells or weld anything together. At least right now.

Pussy.

DONT BAN ME.

Hahaha. I don't have a welder, I don't have the funds for a welder, and I have enough going on anyway. 1/2" body lift keeps me from tubbing my wheel wells and moving my batteries and shit around but allows me to keep my up travel. The alternative is bump stop spacers or longer bumps to keep them from hitting, at which point I lose up travel.

I'm on 35 MTR's and did all my clearancing with a 5lbs sledge, no body lift at the time. I have since added a .5" body lift because I welded my sliders on too close to the pinch weld and every time I hit a pothole my body would band against the sliders. It can be done.

This is what I like to hear. My brother has a 2inch body lift so he had it the easiest. I don’t wanna do a 2inch body lift because then my bumper gap would be too large and I don’t wanna deal with that. Work smarter not harder.

I will say that if you ever plan to run 37's it will be easier to cut and tub the first time than have to cut hammered sheetmetal. So plan appropriately. Also I don't know if it matters to the discussion but I am running Total Chaos UCA's and stock lowers.
