Quick specs:
1999 Base model 4x4 3RZ 5 speed
  • added e-locker
  • front Aussie locker (way better than those ARB things)
  • dual cases with 4.7 front
  • manual hubs
  • Tundra TRD/OME 861 springs
  • Shaved firewall (thanks @Tyler James Inc )
  • Beefy rear links (thanks @AssBurns ) run as 3 link
  • Mazda3 Grand Touring seats (my favorite addition)
  • Savage front and rear bumpers w/ winch
  • 4xInnovations sliders that are now slightly tweaked after Dusy/Ershim
  • Thorley header w/ Magnaflow exhaust
  • SPC UCAs
  • 37s with 5.29 gears
  • 2"body lift

Ready to do it again! Putting in some chromoly axle shafts this week as I seem to have tweaked my stock driver side one somewhere...
That’s impressive! These axles are stronger than D44 shafts, and you tweaked the splines I’m assuming? Dual cases and 37’s is a lot of stress on things

Nope - bent the shaft. When I get it apart we shall see if I bent the housing. @Tyler James Inc has a bet going that the housing is bent too.

I know exactly when I did it. Same hit that collapsed the lower link frame mount.

That's what I get for screwing around at the back. I couldn't just take the most obvious lines. I hit dang hard and sliding the back sideways.

I was wondering what the hell you where doing back there. I figured it was just old guy driving SLOWWWWWWWW. lol

Hopefully you win that bet but if you hit hard enough to bend a shaft there's a pretty good chance the housing gave a bit as well.

Got to drive slow to take in the scenery and find pee spots where I can get my walker out.

What brand chromoly axles did you end up going with?

I went with a set of Yukons

Been getting asked about my summer doors. Here is how I did them:

Marking both sides - my goal was to retain the outside door handle. I may make something to open the door from the inside once I get my snap on clear panels made.

By cutting them down this low you have to remove the side impact beam (pipe) which I felt would lead to decreased door rigidity over time.
20170517_200812-1512x2016.jpg
To combat this, instead of welding sheet metal to cover I used thicker aluminum that I bent in a cheapo Harbor Freight brake and then attached the sections to the door with pop rivets.

Skipping a couple steps - but you can figure them out. I probably should have finished off the inside with aluminum but I wanted to move on to other projects so I used the butyl sound deadening mat material.

Key item - leave your wiring in the door intact! I tried trimming back to what I thought I needed and then none of my window controls worked - including the back window. Just unplug...

Well, more Dusy damage has popped up. Les Schwab just called and won't align my rig because I have bent and cracked steering rack mounts. We shall see how bad they are - this moves up tying my front skids in with my hacked up Trail Gear tranny/tcase skid.

The D ring? Mines bent to shit. I was just under my rig a few hours ago. I can see 1/2" gap between the rack and the bushing there. Pushed the tire from 3 to 9 and there's a ton of play. My inners are fucked, my outers aren't far behind, my LCA bushings don't really exist anymore. Strangely, I'm OK with all that. It is a wheeling rig after all. They'll all break soon enough and I'll replace them when they do. lol

Damage assessment tonight or tomorrow.

Need to fix up the cyclocross bike for this weekend's racing first - shifting and brakes went out after 3 races in the pouring rain, mud, and sand. Last race I was braking by dragging my feet.

You should only worry about braking after the finish line. lol

Went to discount tire right before closing time with a pickup bed of 33s mounted on wheels. I left with 33s dismounted and bare wheels
