Okay actually making progress on this!
My multi-mode case took a shit on me and instead of replacing the same thing, I decided putting in my clocked J shift case was the right option. I just had to figure out the sealing issue associated with the Bud Built case. Luckily
@eimkeith was able to help me come up with a solution for the seal using an adapter he designed, and
@Trevor Knopp machined the part and is sending it my way now.
Over the weekend I pulled the multi-mode case and attempted to mock up the J shift case. Well I couldn’t get it seated more than like 1/2”. Turns out there are different spline cases from the 4 cylinder models and 6 cylinder models. My clocked case was a 4 cylinder case and I have a V6. So that was pretty damn frustrating. The clocking ring has the hardware welded on so getting that swapped over to a new case was not worth the extra work.
Today I picked up a 6cyl case from
@4Running Daily and swapped all the internals from the 6 cylinder case to the clocked 4cyl housing. I bolted it all back together and cycled it and all feels good. Tomorrow I gotta pull the outer case off so I can seal it all up with RTV tomorrow.
This weekend I’ll cut out the section of the floor to clear the clocked case, and install the deal adapter coming from
@Trevor Knopp. hopefully I get the seals I need to get it all installed this weekend.
Surprisingly the internals were actually a little different too. Some of the parts on the 6cyl case were a little larger diameter on the 2hi-4hi connection.
