The breaker protects the wire and device(outlet). As long as the wire(12ga for 20amps) and breaker are correct, then you’re fine to swap in the correct outlet. I’ve never heard of zinsco, can it be swapped for square D or siemens, etc? I surmise that’s the panel.

Get that thing out of there. It's the first thing that got replaced when I purchased my home. You are literally playing with fire.
still renting so i cant replace it and the owner wont because it works so why bother (apparently a house fire isnt a big deal lol). my plan was to have a sparky run a dedicated line from the spare blocks and throw a 20 or 30 dual pole but i had a bad experience the last time i fucked with a zinsco and said fuck it ill work with what i got

went ahead and got the lincoln hd140 weldpak. went to go look at it in store and it was $75 off ($499) with everything to get started so ill give it a go. everything ive read said a 20amp line will be fine as long as a dozen things arent running at the same time. my garage door for some reason has a 20 with nothing else so i can just weld with the door open and itll be fine (i think). just need a new lense or maybe ill just get a fresh hood and report back.

That's a good deal on a great little welder. Happy melting!

I have a 3/4 full Co2 bottle for sale near me for $60 that I might pick up. Last I checked the going rate was like $150ish so it seems like a great deal. I know to check the hydro date to make sure it’s got time left so it’ll be refillable the next time I want to fill it. Been at least 5 years since I looked into gas bottles so I got a few questions for those in the know.

Can anyone tell if this is a owner bottle or LWS exchange program or whatever? Not the greatest photos in the ad.

If this is an owner bottle, can the Co2 be filled with C25 or do they have to swap out the bottle completely?

Anything else I should keep an eye out for when I go to look at it?

I think it depends on the place you are taking it to get filled up. I bought a CO2 bottle for airing up from a yard sale and my local CalTool exchanged it rather than filled it up. On my welding tank and Nitrogen tank, they usually swap them out with a new tank even though I own the tanks. I can request to keep the tank and have it filled but it's much quicker and easier to have them exchange it.

Sounds like as long as the hydro is current I should snag this then, thanks!

I’d suggest calling a few refill shops locally and ask If they can fill that bottle, before you get it. Leased tanks not returned are sorta stolen. Sometimes it’s way cool, other times they say thank you for bringing back our property now go away. I had one place that was cool with me bringing the tank in, cause they just wanted it back, no issue. Other times you loose the tank ya just scored.

I just found a good article about gas bottles. Looks like the neck will have an engraved collar with the LWS shop’s name. That should be easy enough to check out in person.

Is hydro 5 or 10 years for gas bottles? I’m used to dealing with scuba tanks, which are hydro every 5 years.

Argon is 10 years. Other gases is dependent on the gas. My 280 cu ft oxygen bottles last stamp was 1984.
Retested and swapped out the valve for Argon. LWS gave me no grief even though that bottle was 'borrowed" many years earlier(not by me).

i’m trying to avoid the $60 tank and another $30-$50? for another hydro plus the fill so if it’s not a somewhat recent hydro I’ll pass on it and just get one from the LWS or whatever. I’m leaving now to go look at it.

I cannot remember what the hydro test cost me a few years ago. Undoubtedly varies by region.

The cylinder was damn near completely full and had no stampings on the collar so it was a owner bottle. The last hydro was 2000 but I figure it’ll take me a long time to go through this 120cf bottle of Co2. I can upgrade later to C25 when I go to swap bottles, but I think they’ll get me for a hydro fee IIRC? Either way $60 was a deal!

So I made a post earlier about my terrible weld job on some parts (mostly due to poor grounding.. doh!) but learning is never easy nor quick. Anyways anyone got any recommendations to grind down welds on front spindles/hubs? Its pretty tight in some spots so an angle grinder doesn't really work.
