Are these things rebuildable or are they considered consumable anymore? I bought replacements, but wondering if I should just pitch them or turn them In somewhere.

New. Unless you are good with a press and know how to massage everything back into place...I would say not worth the time for rust correction/treatment alone

I did buy new. I was more curious if there were places that recycle/rebuild these or if it’s just more common that they are consumables and meant to be tossed.

Damn! you are ahead of me. Although I've already ordered a Quaife... Are you on NorthAmerican Motoring?

I'm in the "what did I purchase" phase, so I'm going to pull the pan and check the rod bearings (I'm kinda paranoid)
I’m not but can be. I’ve subscribed to Mini2, but it doesn’t seem to have a lot of activity. Let me check it out.

Didn't some one say something about bad omens? The rust on the lower mounts looks sketchy. Do they have dip stations for fluid film like sheep? I'd imagine the undercoating business would be pretty pervasive.

I’m surprised I haven’t seen more undercoat businesses to be honest. They were everywhere in Florida (Ziebart).

The rust looks pretty bad in the photo but it seems to have cleaned up well with a wire wheel brush. Applied some rust converter and will give it a top coat of rattle can paint tomorrow. I have seen a couple of used ones out there for a decent price, but they’re for the R52s, the model after mine. I’d have to research to see if they’re compatible if I should need to go that route. But there’s a lot of metal left under there, thankfully.

Fingers crossed. It’s actually been (tortuously) fun and a good learning experience.

And yes, I do recall someone mentioning something ominous. ;)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OM4GAVS work out some of that torture induced frustration. This is my favorite drawer for the same reasons... everyone needs a drawer of hammers.

Yeah, that sway bar is a goner. What’s another $167 between friends? And believe it or not, that’s dealer price. I was bracing for $500+. Also, I was truly worried about these bolts from a price perspective, so I went to Fastenal first. Of course, nothing in stock or like it. Dealer price: $10. Sold! I did order a tap from Fastenal so I can chase those threads before putting in a new bolt and screwing it up.
