You have to wrap a chain around tree and thru center of wheel for it to work. Tire has to stay against tree to take advantage of fulcrum. Keep chain loose enough tire can roll but stays close to tree.
I pulled out 8 huge oliander stumps with a semi truck rim this way. Started with a semitruck tow truck first. Oleanders just caused the front wheels to lift off the ground! A huge semi truck tow truck!
Grabbed an old steel 24 in truck rim. Short chain keeping wheel close to stump. Tow cable around stump and over wheel.
Made it as easy as pulling carrots.
True story.

I‘ll have to try technique 2.0 on the next one Thanks for the tips!

I'm considering making the jump from my taco to a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4. The JGC I found is optioned out how I'd like it including factory tow which would be perfect for my utility trailer, so I don't think I'd miss having a truck too much. I don't do any heavy wheeling so I think a factory 4x4 should do just fine.

Anything else I should consider? The resale on the taco is kinda nuts, but I wouldn't mind a change in vehicle, and I really like the looks of the JGC and resale seems decent.

@DuneShoot looks awesome! I want to go back to Zion soon and do more than just drive through it.

Edit: Same statement applies to Utah in general. We really just breezed through it on the way to Montana and barely saw anything. I could spend months exploring that state.

If it fits your needs and wants go for it. Get a good warranty:)

We’re are liking it. Camped next to this meadow the last few days. Checked out a cave/ lava tube yesterday 2 miles from camp.
Will see what the next camp site has to offer for views.

T4R would be on my short list as well and if you hold off to see what the 2022 redesign of the T4R brings, it may be more competitive with the tech and power offerings of the JGC unless you just want to switch it up from Toyota in general in which case go for it. Hard to knock Toyota on reliability.

You can't get them new but I really really like my Nissan xterra. This thing has been awesome so far. Terrible gas mileage but thats the only downside so far.
