I'm good with that, haha. Dunno the spring length change but I can try to get that measurement, and I just matched the shackle length for what was on the truck when I bought it.
On its own weight for the first time in like 5 months. I'm still trying to figure out the shackle hanger placement.
I started with the factory 1335mm horizontal distance from spring hanger to shackle hanger. With the rear wheels off the ground I get this:
And this with no jackstands:
So...
One of the (few) nice things about living so far from family is that smaller holidays aren’t filled up with family stuff, so I was able to get the fuel tank crossmember mostly figured out. I still need to build a drop bracket for the frame side of the rear strap, but I’ve got a plan and might be...
It’ll get done sooner or later. Next step is to figure out the rear fuel tank crossmember and mount so I can bolt the axle back in and locate the shackle mounts and shock tabs
I pressure washed the carpet and the leaf springs today. The carpet smells less terrible, and I unearthed some faded part numbers on the springs. I had thought they were a bastard pack that someone put together along the way, but they're actually all pro springs. I don't really know if that's...
I'm trying hard to subscribe to "don't get it right, just get it running" but I've come down with a few cases of while-I'm-in-there-itis.
Also, side note - the heat+wax method for getting frozen brake line fittings apart is straight up fucking magic.
Kinda starting to look like a truck again. New frame rails and fish plates are fully welded and I started mocking up the spring hangers this morning. Hoping to get them tacked in place on Monday afternoon.
I also found the guy who originally built the truck on facebook and he sent me a couple...
Drivers side outboard fish plate is fully welded and the body mount is fit up, and I rolled the axle under it just so I could remember what it used to look like. Still got a TON of welding to do but seeing that made me feel a little better.
Then the main water line to the house broke and I got...
YouTube has lied to me about how long fabrication takes.
Also it’s been a billion degrees below zero here for the last two weeks, so I haven’t had much interest in hanging out in my uninsulated, unheated garage. But tonight I had a few hours and got 3 of the 4 main fish plates tacked in place...
Progress over the last couple days. Frame rails are boxed in and fully welded on both sides, and I got the fish plates cut out tonight. I still need to notch and bend them so they fit a little better, but one step at a time. New bushings for the rear springs showed up today, so I can start...
