Using this thread to collect the trails we know and love or are just aware of in our region and maybe find a few that aren't that well known. Regions aren't all based on geopolitical lines so if you think your submission could be useful in another place you can put it there too.

Might be important to provide:
  • Official Name (if it exists) otherwise what most people call it
  • GPS (DD) of the trail entry point
  • Any known rules associated with the trail and/or state in which the trail is located
  • If it is on public or private land and the proper process you should use to access this trail
  • Some indication of the terrain difficulty (if officially ranked just use that), or maybe use the Mitchell Scale
  • Required gear (winch, chains etc.)
Notations
  • If the status or condition of a trail changes based on your last visit and as a result if it should be removed from the list
  • Best season to do the trail and/or if the trail isn't open during a particular season
  • Drop a GPS breadcrumb if you have it to provide a route
  • Generally just describe why the trail is worth leaving some paint behind (if it’s that kind of trail)
Suggested Syntax Example:
TRAIL NAME, SE ENTRANCE / 40.689263 -74.044505 / Public / Class 3 / Winch

Trail was washed out on our last visit and maybe more difficult than listed. I would do this trail in the Spring due to the bad weather in the late Summer and Fall and it is closed in the Winter. Colorado requires you to know the mapped routes and stay to those, there may be no markings indicating the end of the trail and violations are expensive.

Brown Mountain OHV Trail System, Trail 8 / 35.88965500 -81.73694444 / Public / Class 2

Open March 29 to January 1, $5/day or $30/season pass required. 4WD vehicles may only use Trail 8 and part of Trail 1. No bushwhacking or cutting vegetation is allowed. Restrooms and picnic facilities are available at the trailhead. These trails aren’t challenging to drive but if you’re in the area it’s not a bad afternoon and can give you some access to the backside of Wilson Creek. Trails are accessible 24hr/day during their open season.

Low hanging fruit:

Uwharrie NF OHV Trail System / 35.428363, -80.019274 / Public

Open 01 April - 15 December, Daily or season pass required (I think same $5/day or $30/season as Brown Mtn). Bunch of trails varying in difficulty from gravel roads doable in a Civic to giant rock ledges that need 35s+ and lockers. Several campgrounds in the area, and you can camp trailside if you want.

300 miles of trails on 73k acres near Oak Ridge, TN. I think the land is owned by TVA and leased by the park. Difficulty ranges from "this is a parking lot" to "holy shit i might die" but there are plenty of trails in between. Lots of SxSs on the easier trails, but it's such a big park that it doesn't feel crowded. We only rode for a day and did maybe 10% of the trails. $20/person/day but it seems reasonable for how big the place is.
