Well I crawled under the Tacoma today and found that the driver side motor mount had been previously repaired. Not bad but not good. I'll be tackling this when I do the FJ t case swap since everything will be coming out anyway.
I was going to do the solid motor mounts and solid transmission mount since I had her apart but he's a few weeks out. If your not busy this weekend come over and we can take a look. I braced my trans mount with 1/4" front, back and bottom. It was already cracking so we just plated the fuck outta it. That was years ago though. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

I'll put some up soon. Going to be tied up for at least a week with family stuff. Projects are piling up and are on the back burner for now. I'll call you with the details. Going to need a beer meet soon.

Well, gusset kit got here today, it's fucking gorgeous! It's just gussets but damn! DMZ for the mf'n win!
I have the front diff out, lower steering shaft out and everything that goes with all that. Big thanks to @Brindybot for the help! I probably would have broke a rib taking that diff out on my own. She's ready for some prep now and then the welding and rebuild. 20190626_190057.jpg

Fyi for anyone removing their steering shaft... remove the entire bolts. You can't just loosen them because they ride in a groove on the shaft. They need to be completely removed for them to slide off ther splines.20190626_211758.jpg

Here are some pics of the problem area. This is where the motor mount is welded to the frame on its lower portion. It's fairly even and sitting correctly right now so you can only see the crack. 20190626_211940.jpg20190626_211936.jpg20190626_211930.jpg20190626_211922.jpg

That would explain the write-ups for changing the rack n pinion. They all say remove the bolts before popping the shaft.

Yea , I struggled for awhile. Had play in everything but it wouldn't move. Took the bolts completely out and it almost fell into my hands.

Diff is out, steering shaft is out, everything that could be removed is removed. Crack is all v notched out and ready for welding. Everywhere the gussets will be welded on is cleaned of all its paint. She's ready for for repair and ready for these sexy DMZ gussets....
