Bit random and beat to death, but this is the best forum for actual info.
Ive been wheelin an 02 Sequoia. Pretty fun, enormous and soccer mom to the max.
Im on a kick to see what the thing can do with stock length arms and equipment.
Its a 4speed and 4.7 obviously. Noticed the trans hunts on hills with 35s on.
no Bumpers or armor yet
4.88s gonna do the trick for me? is 5.29 gonna be too deep for the highway part of trips?
whats gonna be that happy medium, if there is one?
Some hamburger hill fun below

Damn we are living in a simulation. I have a 04 4runner but have been looking at a 04 sequoia for a few days now. What is the best site to look up build tips and lifts. What are you running.

Most guys seem to be running 4.88’s with the V8 but going that extra bit to 5.29 might be worthwhile if you are doing minimal highway driving.

Check out this site to check gear ratios based on different setups and different speeds.
My thoughts on gear ratios is that you want your rpm’s higher than stock due to added weight and more rotating mass.

Front end is all 1st gen Tundra, so that parts easy, back end suspension wise is all 100 series, coils and shocks any way. you can also use 80 series shocks I think. But Josh at 1stgenoffroad.com is probably the best source for info on lifts and all that good stuff. I could be wrong but im fairly certain the 01-04 has 7.5 front diff, so any 1st/3rd gen taco/4r lockers and such will work there, and the rear is a 8.4 so eaton/arb there. But yea, its kind of a frankenstein tundra/LC
Ive got 6112 front and fox 2.0 rears shocks, and rear coils I think OME 862, like 2.5" all around. thats pretty much it. The trac system does alright on the rocks, pretty much just LSDs without having LSDs lol but lockers on it and i think it would wheel better than the 4r.

1G tundra here with the 4speed. On 34" tires and regeared to 4.56. The truck still struggles on freeway climbs.

Eventually i'll go to 5.29 since there's no reason not to.

I was initially set on 4.56 cuz v8, but upon yours and others confirmation that aint it. I dont cruise fast, 65-70 90% of the time, trying to find that sweet spot for better crawlin and just moving the whale itself down the road.

Lockers are the sweet spot for crawling. Can't comment on gear selection for the v8 but 5.29 seems to be a sweet spot regardless of engine size for crawling too.

Around 2014 all the ExPo guys were 35s and 4.56 and praising them. i figured my use would be just right on a slightly smaller tire. Not the case. Those guys later swapped to 4.88 or sold the trucks.

i could kinda see the 4.56 with the 5 speed auto, but seeing how much people overload the piss out the truck lower gearing would seem a no brainer. I dont have any additional armor at this point, but it is the pack mule for most trips, and another cross country move here in 6 months

I like the idea of 5.29, my wife dailys the thing rn and for the foreseeable future lol and its the long range vehicle of the two hence 4.88. But after feeling lug hard in any moderate level obstacles i wanna take any load off other drive train parts. Mainly just dont wanna get stuck wishing i went lower.
