Hey everyone, so the high side of my ac system rubbed a hole in it’s self, letting out all the charge. I’ve got extra parts to repair, butimnot an ac guy. I can do the work, but I’m unsure of the correct operations and order. Any of you folks know the ins and outs of replacement of line? I have the exact part from another truck in known working condition. I bought o-rings and removed broken line. I’m thinking it’s to easy to just put new o rings and line, vacuum system and fill again. Do I need to run a vacuum before and after the line is replaced? What prep if any, what to NOT Do?Any help would be awesome. Thank y’all

How old is that system? You might want to replace the expansion valve and the condenser. I rent the equipment from O'Reilly's and buy the refrigerant there as well.

Dryer should be part of your condenser so unless it's got a hole too, I wouldn't bother. You want to vacuum the system for at least 30 min whenever its exposed to atmosphere that way you boil off any water that made it's way in from the air. Meh on the expansion valve as well but then again I'm a cheapass and believe that if it's not broke dont fix it. Throw some PAG oil on the orings during install so you dont pinch or roll them.

It's the oil for the ac compressor. R-134a refridgerant needs PAG (polyalkaline glycol) it comes in bottles that incorporate leak dye as well that way you can trace down any future leak with a blacklight. If your ac system was exposed to atmosphere then the leaking refridgerant took oil with it. Throw in a couple oz when you have it recharged.

Definitely want to replace receiver/dryer tank whenever that system gets opened (88471-34010). It'll be right next to the passenger headlight up front behind the grill. Replaced my condenser recently after smashing it pulling the crank pulley off and once that is exposed to the atmosphere, it'll be useless for drying up moisture in the system.
