5th Gen T4R Total Chaos +2" LT - Heims or Bushings?

So just starting to do some preliminary planning here but have some questions regarding heimed or bushing UCA's.

I had a mid travel Total Chaos setup on the Tacoma so fairly familiar with the bushings but wondering if I should do heims this go around. My understanding is that bushings should be less maintenance but heims should allow more adjustment for caster and alignment.

I guess my question is how many miles should heims last compared to bushings? Are they something that will need to be replaced every 10,000-20,000 miles or should they last quite a bit longer?

I haven't run my heims long enough to really weigh in on maintenance, but they're definitely quieter than bushings. The added adjustments are nice and you can do solid mount cam tabs to lock in the lower alignment. Which I still have yet to do.

hemis get noisey after a while and when ur out camping and trying to jerk-off everyone can hear ur rig going squeak, squeak, squeak, squeak and then u get a lot of looks the next morning... So I've heard, that's what a friend told me.....

Thats interesting that you’re finding them quieter than bushing. My bushings on the taco squeaked like a mofo but I would have thought the heims being metal on metal would have been even worse……

More things to ponder. I agree the solid mount LCA’s and not having to worry about gusseting cam tabs is another benefit to the adjustment all being in the upper.

My heimed lowers have 60k on them with no play. Minor squeaks. Not apples to apples tho.

If you're gonna romp the truck you will want the heimed uppers. If you're just going camping no need.

Can add the heimed uppers later if you change your mind.

That's impressive longevity - are you running the Camburg lowers?

So someone correct me if I’m out to lunch here but I messaged a guy that’s supposedly a vendor for ADS and I asked him if he has a LT solution for a +2 kit and he msgs me back and says he does.

I ask what the extended / compressed lengths are and he says 25.5”/17.5” which is only an 8” travel shock which to me is an extended travel mid-travel type shock.

Should be about 11” if it’s anything like the King/Fox specs…..right?

The wheel moves more than the shock does

Call ADS direct, they can verify and they're super helpful. I worked with Tyler when I was redoing my shims and he even hooked me some slight discounts on parts.

It just seems weird that it’s the identical amount of travel I had on my mid travel Tacoma albeit a longer overall shock…..

25.5/17.5

vs

21.5/13.5

Both 8” of shock travel. I’ll need to read up some more on LT geometry I guess to wrap my head around this.

I guess that is right. Tyler just got back to me and confirmed that the 25.5/17.5 with 8” travel is the right shock and based on the specs my mid travel extended had only 5” of shock travel.

Yeah mid “extended” travel on a taco is a stock length shock with <5” of travel that gets like 8” of wheel travel.

what’s that +2 going to give you, around 12” of wheel travel?

Heims for the lcas. So when you align it there isn’t any binding bushings. Camburg is coming out with a +2 kit that uses oem spec coilover btw. It’ll add some leverage to the shock but the kit also has a bumpstop slapper arm as an add on.
