There’s a version of the pin out there with a long detent and a shorter spring that has less issues. I used to know which one but I’m more of a fan of featureless than the break opens right now

Are you going to put optics on it?
Maybe down the line. I kept my Marlin model 60 without a scope just because I like the challenge but an optic on the AR might be in the cards when I feel like dropping some more firearms related coin. Ammo prices suck right now, so I’ll probably be stocking up slowly on that for a while and then maybe switching over to an optic down the road.

The real adjustment is on the mag release in their modified catch latch, so the rear pin shouldn’t need adjusting, correct? I belive that’s where their instructions say the adjustment needs to be made before the set screw loc-tite sets.

For the rear pin, I could see the thumb screw with the spring in the left side backing off enough to cause trouble with the separating action.

I had to adjust the mag release a few times but it can still cause issues. If the rear pin doesn't get pushed far enough it won't break open, but you can push it too far and the detent pin pops out if you aren't careful.

that’s pretty cheap for an entry level optic. Anything else under $200 or so worth looking at?

I’ll keep that in mind. Hopefully I don’t regret going with this brand mag lock. Time will tell.

Vortex crossfire 2 red dot. It’s $150 most places no questions asked warranty from vortex even if you’re not the original owner of the optic.

Seems like a popular budget red dot. Any features on these things worth holding out for? Mounting wise or otherwise? The warranty is a big plus.

The crossfire has 10 brightness and I think 2 night vision settings I believe without looking at it. Comes with a co witness and a lower 1/3 mount. Uses cr2032 batteries and has covered windage and elevation caps. I’ve had mine on a saint victor 16 barrel in 5.56 works great. I’ve shot out to 100 yards with it well enough with my shitty eyes.

I have gotten them for less on sale. You also don’t have to be the original owner to get the warranty. They don’t ask if a issue happens.

I’ll read through that article, I know it’s supposed to be better for nods and then more heads up so more comfortable.
Yeah heard it’s easier for new shooters that aren’t used to getting low over the bore

I'm tempted to build up spare lowers just cause but I’m being picky and not wanting to put cheaper parts on there (buffer tubes, etc.

I hate it when I do this to myself

You are pandemic rich. Do It.
Already did a lot of that. The XS sights I got are dim and I’m talking to their customer service about replacements.

And I passed on the Black Friday sales for buffer tubes and the like. DOH
