Went to Ocotillo over the weekend. Great trip! Did the usual run to Shell Reef and Devil's Slide in the morning. We had some buggies with us that were almost class 1 cars, so I was driving a little fast so that they could go a little faster than just their idling speed lol. Well I must have either fried my shocks or broke something internally because I have pretty much no dampening left up front. I couldn't expect the 5100's to last as long as they actually did, but I'm still bummed that they are completely shot now. Thanks to @Plastics Guy for making good bump stops to keep my shit from smacking hard as fuck on every hit with blown shocks. :beerscheers:
Not sure what I'm going to do. I need to save for my next project but I know it'll be a while before that project happens. I'm kinda wondering if I should just try to find some 6"-8" used bypasses to hold me over the next few months while I work on the next project. I can sell those later on to help fund the shocks for the LT. I don't really want to spend money right now, but replacing these shocks again would just be dumb. More to think about.

I also fixed my hood pins that ripped out of the tabs last trip out. I used some 3/4" tube cut to 1" long as a sleeve to hold the hood pins more securely. Well I kinda knew this was going to be an issue, I didn't want to do the extra effort to do it right. Well the hood pins held up pretty good for the most part, but the hood hinges broke this time. This was because the front of the hood was chassis mounted, and the hinges were body mounted. Well I figured I could at least make it back to camp with just the hood pins holding the hood down. WRONG! One of the pins sheared and my hood almost fell off the truck lol. So we threw it on my buddies roof rack and I drove the rest of the weekend with no hood. Everyone was saying that was the most hood shit they ever seen lol. On the drive home, I just ratchet strapped that shit back on and drove home. My truck is so beat to shit right now. I really need to do a full once over on it.

Do you have a list somewhere of the parts you bought to make the battery welding kit?

Yeah 2-3 batteries in series depending on the rod size and what you are welding on.

Hey man!! Love the thread. Hope mine is as sick as this one day. Anyways got a ???. What JL coils are you running? They have a specific code. Depending on if it was a hard too and/or 2/4 door.

The coils I got are from a JLU (Unlimited=4 door). I didn't look to see if there were any specific codes that would specify anything in particular. I would think that any 4 door would have about the same spring rate since they seem to all come with hard tops these days.

Finally got the opportunity to do my first project at the new house. So glad I finally got my garage setup and ready for projects right away. First thing I figured out is I was reaching for tools I don’t own. I’m used to doing projects in my dads garage where I have access to all his tools as well as my own. I realized I didn’t own any deep socket sets. (I have a bunch of random ones but like only 1/2 complete sets). So ran to harbor freight and grabbed some 3/8” and 1/4” deep sockets. I’ll eventually put these in the BeerRunner when I upgrade).
I think I’m going to just go straight to cutting everything out right away and force myself to finish before Dusy Ershim. A few things that are needed to be done:
1) ABS Delete
2) Battery Relocation
3) Engine Cage
4) Core Support tubes for radiator, headlights, fenders and grill.
5) New extra high clearance bumper.
6) Skid Plate
7) Swap Coils for extra weight during Dusy Ershim
8) Alternator
9) Pack for trip.

Today I started with the ABS delete. First I pulled the old lines. I just took some small bolt cutters and cut the old ones out of the way, saving enough room for the rear line at the ABS module. Next I put in the two main front lines. It took a little massaging to get it in there. Went from the wheel side of the passenger side line and finagled the rest behind the heater hoses and some electrical lines. After that I bent and cut the other lines I had to fit with the two front lines at a T fitting to the MC line. The rear line was cut and flared to connect to the proportioning valve then to the MC. I still have to bleed the brakes and test/tune it, just gotta remember to bleed brakes tomorrow and remember to keep an eye out when I go to drive it.

So you wouldn't happen to have those part numbers for those new brake lines and BPV? :spy:

Brake lines are stock brake lines from a non ABS truck that I snagged from Pick-a-Part. It wouldn't be too hard to make your own though.

Here is the BPV. This uses a M10 bubble flare, whereas our stock brake lines are M10 inverted flare. You'll have to either make your own flare for that piece or buy bubble flare lines.

This. Also super clean Manual BPV location.
Even with the Zip Tie holding it on? lol

Been like 5 years since I've made brake lines, but I might give it a shot. Thanks man!

So I finally got the hood put back on last week. I ended up just mounting some 3/4” x .120” tube with trick tabs as brackets to mount the hood hinges and fenders to. I had to make a new hood pin since one snapped when the hood hinges broke. I just bought an M10 x100mm stainless bolt. Ground it down and drilled a hole in it. Kinda janky but it works and was $6 rather than spending $40 on a new hood pin kit.

Over the holidays I painted my tire carrier finally. It’s been almost a year since I made it and it’s finally started rusting enough to cause me to paint it. I wanted it a little darker grey but at least it’s painted. I might bite the bullet for Steel It for the front bumper and engine cage.

I also fixed my ARB compressor. Last trip out the compressor was working fine until I went to air up. I thought the relay went out so I bought a new one. It ended up being the connector for the power lead not getting good contact. I cleaned it and threw some dielectric grea

If your truck isn't held together by 50+ zip ties, is it even a build?
