Got a wild hair up my ass the last couple days and thinking about how great it could be to have a mezzanine setup in the rear. I could easily get 20+ inches of travel and easily package things. It was getting tough to package coilovers and bypasses around a large fuel cell and sway bar. This setup will make it a breeze.

Very crude draft of things

No this is in place of trailing arms. It will still have proper 4-link, but the coilovers/bypass will mount on these arms so that there is an increased motion ratio vs mounted directly at the axle. I still think trailing arms would be a better setup but packaging is difficult on an SUV while retaining back seats for the kids.

that's pretty wild indeed. always liked the cantilever and outside the box suspension...sounds like a lot of fun to tinker and think about.

we need a 3d printed mock-up :gossip:

My guess is not. Cage itself is gonna take quite a bit of my time. Hoping to get my truck back by the end of the year so by the time I get things back and get started on the project it'll probably be KOH already. If work stays busy I won't have shit for time to get things done. Working on things during the weekday is damn near impossible these days. I'll be lucky to have things running by summer honestly.
Should be fine crawling. I'll have to find a way to limit the articulation as much as possible while still allowing full droop and compression. I gotta decide if I am going to stick with 35's or make the jump to 37's so I can build things around the tires. The rear end and steering should hold up to 37's but the front diff is gonna have a bad time lol.

Little progress at a time. Got the calipers brackets welded on and truss camps welded on as well.
Not much else I can do at the moment. Waiting for the LT parts to get cut and bent still. Once I get those I’ll have some more things to make progress on while I wait on my motor swap to get done.

Speaking of motor swap... Caleb is trying to convince me to do a turbo right now instead of waiting for later. Long term goal is a turbo LS but not planning on it right now. He thinks I should just go for it now. What’s an extra few grand? Lol

it's only money and better now before you build another cage and then dance around it later installing the tubing or end up cutting it out outright and rebuilding it all over again.

I’m seriously debating it but my wallet is pulling my in so many directions right now and if I do this now it’ll only delay my build. I’m getting impatient haha
Still gotta finish the yard, get the trees trimmed, patio cover, RV parking and gate, twin post lifts, tow rig, race trailer and new mom car for the wife. All while trying to get my savings up to a years worth of bills and fund retirement... Man I need more money and time lol

I think you'll be more than happy with the power over the 3.4, no need for turbo. Haha.

id turbo it now even if ya gotta slow down the build a little. Retrofit is never as good as an all-at-once solution.

It's gonna be at least 9 months before your able to whee again. If you really want a turbo do it now. That way once your back wheeling you can stay back wheeling. Doing a turbo later is stupid since you already have access to the motor and no cage in the way. If you choose to do it later that's more lost wheeling time. Plus this way I can hear "I'm glad I listened to you guys and did the turbo first" instead of "I should have listened to you guys and done the turbo first." lol

Well that's a given. Just the motor with a cam will double the power I had before which is definitely enough for what I need out of things. BUT how much more fun would it be if I tripled the power over stock?

Yeah I'm thinking this is falling in line with the whole "buy once, cry once" line of thinking. The hard part is I don't NEED it, but I want it. Harder to justify things with that way of thinking too. I've always been a cheap ass on truck stuff so the thought of me going all out if hard on my normal way of thinking. It's a terrible investment lol
a guy who hates non-consensual induction
Well that's just boring.:lalala:

Well that really puts things into perspective. I HATE the idea of not wheeling for a while, but what I hate worse is the idea of having the truck down again and more work on top of the shit I'm already doing. I got some tough decisions to make and I think my wallet is going to hate me for it :deadbanana:
