Christ, that took me less than 15 seconds to find using Google.

Yeah but then I have 60 fucking pages to look through. Luckily I started searching a when you first posted about it and found the start of the issues and repairs.
Looks pretty good and definitely gonna take some ideas from it, however I am gonna go a little different route with mine. I gonna make an engine cage that is there for structural purposes to tie in a full cage, then do some small tubed outriggers to hold the fenders and make a new core support to hold the radiator, grill and headlights. Kinda similar to what @madtaco461 is doing to his.

Yeah, like I said just for ideas. He just happens to be someone I know who's already done exactly what you need to do.

I might as well do this before I try and stuff 37's. No need to cut and tub the whole wheel well knowing damn well I'm going to crack it all to hell.

Picked up the tube bender and tube notcher last night from my buddy. Depending if I have any time this weekend, I may try to get a start on the tire carrier.

This morning I picked up a stick of 1.50” x .095” wall HREW tubing. I debated going DOM, but since this won’t anything that requires serious structural integrity I went with HREW to save about $50. Not my first choice, but again, beer money is more important.

Strapped that bitch to the roof of the BeerRunner and still was able to stuff it in the garage.

Don’t mind the front end being held (or lack there of) together by tape.
Hey what rims are those and what is the offset set on them or are you running wheel spacers. I would like to use OEM rims 17x7 or 7.5 0 offset but I don't think Toyota makes those.

My biggest issue with the rear 2.0 resis was that I was rubbing the resis because of where they mount on the frame with the sport/sr5 wheels. So I was running 1.25 spacers to combat that. When I went to fj steelies I wasn't hitting so I dumped the spacers for awhile until I went 35s then I needed them to clear again even with the scs sr8 back spacing.

They are stock 5 stars that came stock on the 4runner. No idea what the offset or backspacing is but they are 16” x 7” with 1.25” wheel spacers. I wanna say I read somewhere that the backspace is like 4.625” but I really have no idea. Never measured or verified it.

Thanks. I want to stay with stock rims in the 7 /7.5 range but all the stock rims are +20 +30 offset so that 4.6 sounds correct. I don't want to run wheel spacers so it keeps looking like after market rims.

Just run spacers. They are a little extra work when changing CV’s but they hold up fine.

So I bought those Energy Suspension poly body mounts, but I’m a cheap ass and wanted to save $50 by buying the red ones instead of the black ones. Luckily @Tyler James Inc gave me the idea to just dye the red ones black using some RIT powdered dye.

He found this link and shared it with me on how to do it. Basically get the water to almost boiling and put the bushings in the ALMOST BOILING water for 30 minutes. I ended up puting them in for 40 minutes since it got them a little darker. They definitely aren’t completely black but they are pretty close and way better than the bright ass red that they were. I’m totally satisfied considering the $6 and hour of my time.

Nice. I am going to do the body mounts soon and wouldn't mind saving some $ by getting vthe red ones and dying them. I didn't see the beer on the posted write up so that must be your personal touch. 40 minutes surely you had more than one. Lol

Got a little more work put in on the spare tire carrier this weekend. Only fucked up one tube. The sad part is it fit so well, but I forgot to pull the carrier off of the body before finishing the tube. Right after I tacked it on, I realized I didn’t leave a gap between the tire and body. Doh!

Other than that the only other issue I had was I ran out of welding gas yesterday. Luckily I was able to borrow a buddies tank this morning. Welding the plates on the hatch was a bitch since the sheet metal was so thin on the edges. I had to turn the welder WAY down even with .023” wire and still had some issues burning through. It worked out though.

The majority of the tire carrier is done. I ran out of .095” wall tubing so I’ll wait till next weekend or something to finish the last two gusset tubes going from the bottom corner of the main hoop to the corners of the outer tubes to add some rigidity. Then license plate tabs and paint. For now it’s good enough to go wheeling.

What are you attaching the upper mounts to? It's obviously welded to the sheet metal. Any other hidden welds?

Not entirely sure of your question. I welded some 1/8” plate to the hatch to distribute the load across a large surface as well as a stronger plate to weld the tabs to. Each side has 3 plates welded to the hatch along the edges as well as some plug welds. The plates are also welded to each other. Then the tabs are welded to the plates obviously. No hidden welds I guess, unless you consider the plug welds as hidden.

That looks great. Maybe you addressed this earlier but are you going to add anything that’ll ease the weight of the carrier with tire when it comes down. Maybe gas shocks?

I didn’t plan on it, but that might not be a bad idea if I can work out a way to make it work without getting smashed on rocks. Good idea. The tire carrier isn’t too heavy but a little extra help wouldn’t hurt. Good idea!

Looks good . That is what I had on my crawler and I hated it though. It didn't help that the spear weighed 109lbs. I chopped it up and made it a swing out.
