Do you think you’ll have enough air flow with the winch that high up blocking most of the upper radiator?

Yeah I'm not too worried about the air flow. There will still be plenty of air flow around the radiator and skid. It's really not much different from what I had before, or the guys running plate bumpers. Plate bumpers actually block most of the radiator, while tube bumper allows air to easily flow around the skid.

Because, Trailer Queen:flamethrow:

Are you ever going to pay your registration? Might not be bad to have it for driving back to Shaver Lake after the Dusy.
It's paid. I just haven't gotten it smogged since 2017 when I started cutting all the fun stuff off. They won't send me tags until it passes smog. I haven't even tried to find someone to make it "pass". I keep saying I need to register it in AZ, but I haven't done that yet. The spare tire covers the plate anyways haha

Hood pins are done. They work pretty well. I spent a little extra ($20) on better quality pins. These keep the pin secured even when unlatched, which is super convenient. Makes it so I don’t need to keep spares.

I went to install the winch and noticed that the bolts were like 1/2” off, so I measured everything. The mounting pattern was drilled correctly, but the winch was way off. I fingered something was fucked up on the winch. I tried to unspool it and it was jammed. I unbolted it and was able to pull the spook and unspool it. Well in the process the side plate fell off on the spool because it broke off at the welds. I was able to grind the welds off and re-weld it back together. Kinda frustrating since this is a warm winch and you’d expect it to be pretty high quality. Luckily I got the winch for dirt cheap in the first place or I’d be pretty pissed.

Checking out the clearances on the bumper, winch, and trans-cooler. Everything fits super tight, which was completely intentional, but I’m realizing how little room I left for error. Luckily I measured well.

I got all of the engine cage and bumper fully welded. Only things left are make skids, clean up the wiring and mount the battery. Can’t wait for this project to be finished. I’m tired of not wheeling.

So are you racing hammers or what? Hoodpins = Racecar.
Looking good dude, love the approach angle.
Nope, I don’t ever plan to race. I would like to build it to keep up with race trucks, however I would rather drink beer and hang out with friends than race.

Race from camp to camp stealing everybody’s beer

Nice rig, what welder are you using?
Miller 211. I love it. It’s perfect for for the hobbyist/garage builder. I like that it has the 110v/220v options. Makes it where I can take it places if I need be. It’s got plenty of power and duty cycle for what I’ve used it for. If I’m welding to the point I worry about the duty cycle, I need to let the material I’m welding on cool down anyways.

Got more done on the skid. Almost ran out of welding gas so I only did the inside stitch welds. Still have to make the back lip of the skid and gussets on the skid mount, then finish welding it all up.

comparing the old skid with the new skid. Way better angles than before and more gusseting should help it hold up longer. Old skid actually has a little better angle than what it looks like here since it’s all bent downwards.

Just ordered more shit. Bought an AGM Deka Intimidator battery, and a GM 140 Amp alternator out of a '96 Cadillac Fleetwood. Stock is only 80 amps. My alternator is pretty much shot as it is, and with the battery being moved to the rear, it will be nice to have more amps closer to the winch. I also got working on the battery box. I wanted to use the battery box that I have been using for the past few years, but I needed to keep the battery posts covered and away from kids and other objects that might make contact with it. I just made a wooden lid out of 3/4" MDF on a hinge to lift up out of the way. It's got a magnet to hold the lid down so it doesn't just flop around. I might make a metal lid later on, but I was a little worried about having everything made of metal. If this works out well, then I might just remake it out of some 14g sheet metal. Gonna mount a 150A Circuit breaker on the underside of the lid as well. As I was modifying the battery box I noticed that it was full of battery acid corrosion, then a few minutes later I noticed there was a large gash in the top side of the battery. No wonder it was leaking so much, and it wouldn't hold a charge for shit!

Here's the lid I made. It's not ideal, but it covers the battery, and the battery is very secure and can be bolted onto my fender wells via some brackets very easily.

BEEEEFY! Can't wait to see if you can manage to break all of it.
I'm really hope I DON'T break any of the stuff I'm doing this time around. Part of the reason I'm taking my time and really getting the most out of everything. The only things I'm worried about are headlights. I don't know if my last ones broke due to abuse, or from the core support crumbling around them.
The rest should hold up to my abuse *fingers crossed*
