Some pics for you guys. I think I took maybe two pics all weekend. The rest were sent to me.

The #BurnsBBQ with the new table addition.

Some new stickers for it to get the sticker game started. It's always fun having stickers plastered all over something cool to see who's been there. My buddy who was out there manages the Fox race team, and they are also part of Dust Junkies Racing that do pits for races. Super cool guys.

Some of the crew that was there when we did the table.

While we were waiting for some others to catch up, my brother and I doing some posing.

Out at some of the mini sand dunes we found.

Didn't get any pics while it was broken, but here is a pic as I was putting it back together to limp it back to camp.

IMG_0806.jpg

The weld I threw on to keep wheeling. Not pretty by any means, but it was good enough considering the situation. I haven't stick welded in over 5 years, plus not having an auto darkening hood and welding with two batteries made things a little more difficult to figure out.

IMG_0442.jpg

My buddy sheared some steering bolts. I've been telling him to double shear that shit for a while now, and sure enough it finally broke.

IMG_3679.jpg

My dad sheared the bolts on his upper links on his JKU.

IMG_3660.jpg

Then eventually ripped the axle bracket off the next day.

Since my rig was broken with no power steering, I was riding my buddy's 110 all day. I was having some fun here seeing how fast I can come into this little berm at camp.

There are some videos out there too that I'll post when I get a hold of them too if they are any good.

Lol poor 110. Man you guys beat them rigs up.

That's why I didn't go meet them. I'd probably have blown shocks and a newly bent rear axle. Hahaha. Glad I went my own way because I'm rubbing like crazy and grinding something on driver stuff. Need to get under there and find out wtf is happening.

Wow. Looks like fun. I can’t beat my minivan/mall crawler like that, but glad to live vicariously.

Got some parts from RuffStuff today for my spare tire carrier I plan to be building soon. Also got a PRP spare tire 3-way strap from @PermaBan over the weekend. After looking at the new goodies, I wanted to get a rough idea on how I’d like position the spare tire height and angle.

For height I’m thinking about even or an inch or so below the roof line. That should give me enough departure angle to not drag on it every time I drag my bumper which is quite often.
I came up with 3 different options on angle.

1) Angled forward to keep it as tight to the body as possible. Seems like a good idea and looks good to me, but having the bottom stick out might look a little funky with how I plan to have the tubes coming up for the lower mounts.

2) Vertical. Keeps it simple and tight to the body on top and bottom. Might still be able to reach through the back window with the tire up.

3) Angled back. This could let me lower the tire a little while retaining a good departure angle, but increases the overall length of the vehicle. (Problem when backing up in tight situations) More room to access through the back window.

I’m thinking position 2 might be the winner due to the least amount of comprises and will look and function well, but I figured I’d see what you guys think as well.

I like option 1. It looks tidy and if there is a angled tube under the tire it will help in sliding the rear of a rock. My rear tire on my Zuk saved my ass one time. Slid back of a rock teetered back hit the spare tire then came back down. I thought I was going to go over backwards and do did everyone watching.

i'm torn, Pos.1 i really like and does look real tidy and clean but looks like the bottom of your tire carrier would stick out a lot more in that position.
Pos.3 looks good and the bottom of you tire carrier might sit closer to your rig and give you a better departure angle.

Biggest problem I see with #1 is if there's too much movement in the tire carrier it's going to smash your rear window right out. I meant to look as I was leaving the house, but I wanna say mine is pretty straight up and down, but it's tucked in and high enough that departure angle isn't an issue.

Look at that left rear 1/4 panel . Smashing does not seem to be a concern:headwall:. Beefed up exocage tire carrier hybrid thing crosses my mind.

Angled and you left alot on the table when it comes to height. Could have raised it a few more inches . Looks good though. I think the bottom tire angle would help in sliding of an object if it did get hung up.

It was a prototype bumper that I picked up on the cheap from a shitty company <cough>fuck mobtown<cough> I've only been hung up on it once and I believe it kept me from tipping over because I was on 2 wheels.

FYI on the PRP Strap. I ended up pulling the stitching out of the logo badge and taking it off so I could get the 3-way buckle closer to the rarchet. If the hooks are close to the bottom surface of the tire, there isn’t really enough adjustment to get it centered cleanly with the logo still on.

The way I'm build the tire carrier is to completely avoid the tire carrier from moving by attaching it to the body and frame in well spread out mounting points. I can pretty much make it as tight as I'd like without the carrier hitting the body with this design. This should be stronger and hold up to abuse much better than the spindle design.

Close. This is what I'm going for.
Still debating if I wanna use 1.50" x .120" wall or 1.50" x .095" wall to save a few lbs. I already got a stick of DOM .120" wall but saving some weight could be nice.

I noticed that last night. Pretty dumb spot for the logo. I'll likely have to do that too.

Yup, kinda silly since I use it for a 37” flat in the bed of the truck and have to mod it to fit right.

Knock wood, only flat I’ve ever gotten off-road was on my old diesel merc on reddington pass. I know you’re rig is super built and you go through the thickest spots, but how critical is a spare tire? Could a skinny tire work as spare? Does the weight back there effect the balance, 35-37 tires are heavy? Spitballing here, but what about beadlock wheels and just an extra tire on the roof? I like all the options, but number 2 has the best of both worlds. I’m always going into the hatch and the tire carrier gets in the way. I think.120 is heavy duty, maybe.95 is enough. In any case I like the way you think.

I blew out 2 tires on the Mojave Road last April. I sliced a sidewall open on a fire road in Barstow in October. Spare tire is ridiculously important, and not just for crawling. Fortunately when I tossed the 2nd one in the Mojave @BandanaBerg had the exact same size spare and tire as what I was running. You just never know how sharp some of the rocks hiding under sand can be. I never even saw or felt whatever I hit in Barstow. I just had suddenly had a flat.
