Try to catch a spring training game! I have only been to the Indians games which are way out in Goodyear but the Angels play in Tempe and the stdium is pretty nice. Can't help with school choices as I grew up in the east coast so fuck the Pac-12 schools!
Lots of stuff to do outside this time of year so hiking/biking will always be crowded near town. That's why I love heading south or north to get away from that crap. If around my area, Chandler, Saturday night give me a text and I can point you to some great places to eat.
