2 1/2 hours on a holiday weekday with no traffic. Throw in traffic it's another 30-60 mins

View attachment 2587
Yeah but you are gonna see the same traffic going to JT on a holiday weekend. Once you get to Palm Desert, the traffic diminishes quickly.

I only have to go as far as Indio. The canyon is right around the corner from the gas stop.

I only had to go about 4 miles from my house. lol

I don't have to do shit. The sooner I get into dirt the happier I am. I'm even happier when I'm places that don't have a fuck ton of people. Pinkham to old Dale let's me avoid the majority of the cluster fuck of JT. Fortunately the tourists either dont know about the back country or they don't have the vehicles to get to it.

Well excuuuuse me mr.pissy pants. You know my sarcasm. Jt is by far my favorite to just explore and get away from the crowds. Truckhaven is just better for challenging wheeling
Also I spied your buddies will be out at the spot New Years:gossip:

Yeah he would rather just do shakedown runs every weekend than do some dope wheeling in Ocotillo.

Busted rear locker. I can't wheel hard if I wanted to right now and I'm not looking to get trailered home.

Looking for New Year’s BBQ pics.

I want all the horny details...come on, we know your white trash...
Haha horny details :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Well then...

We got out to Ocotillo Wells Friday night and decided to do the table thing Saturday for lunch. I picked up a couple bags of concrete, and a bucket with a lid. My pops brought a digging bar, post hole digger, measuring tape, and level. We strapped the tools and table to our friends roof rack, brother grabbed the concrete, I grabbed the water bucket, and pops had the small tools.
Around 1pm we took off with our immediate group of about 5 rigs, and hit up our other buddies on the radio to let them know we were heading up there.
Our immediate group got up there and got straight to work. Since my dad used to put fence up WAY back in the day, we let him dig the hole and do the concrete and just helped carry everything to the spot about 10 yards away from where we parked. Once we got the hole dug and decided on height, we put the first half bag of concrete, some water, second half, more water, etc.. until both bags of concrete were in there. We double checked that it was all level and called it good.

Once that was done, we lit up a bag of charcoal and got the BBQ fired up. It was a little windy so we used some flat rocks on the front of the BBQ opening to block some wind to keep the coals going. Just about then our buddies with about 5 rigs showed up as we were putting on the first batch of hot dogs, brats and hot links. Those went pretty quickly and we threw on some burgers, more hot links, and sausages. We probably cooked over 30 dogs and 10 burgers for everyone and didn’t have any leftovers that I know of.

We hung out up there on the hill for around 2 hours in total from the time we got there to the time we packed up and left. With all of us hanging out and BSing, we had quite a few beers and a real good time hanging out. My buddy’s dad works for Fox and they are involved with Dust Junkies Racing, so we put a few stickers on the table to get the sticker game started. We also left some cooking tools up there that were on the BBQ when we pulled it out of my parents backyard when they moved in to their house. That way someone can use them (or steal them. We bring our own anyways)

Good times up there for sure! Maybe next time we might make a bench or something to sit on. Who knows.

It looks like you guys had a good time. Both the BBQ and the Table looks bad ass. So your thinking of putting up a bench next?

Make the bench out of an old truck bed.

Or make some artisan sheet metal people to block the windy hey can also represent the families that put up enjoy the grill.

What I was thinking for the bench was a metal frame and some good wood. That way people can carve their names into it. Probably keep it real simple without a back so people can face either way

I guess last I left off was about us building a bench.
Well my pops recently passed back in September 2021, and since one of his favorite places to go was the BurnsBBQ, we decided to put his memorial up there. I think the reason he loved going up there so much is it was always a good time with family and friends. Hard to beat the views, and good food too.
Today I started working on the bench for his memorial. We’ll have a plaque on there as well, but it’s not quite ready yet. I wanted to keep this very simple and hopefully something that’ll last a few decades with minimal maintenance. I decided on a steel frame with composite deck wood since that stuff is supposed to have quite the long lifespan. Just needs some paint and the plaque. We are planning to head out there next weekend to get it all setup. Anyone is welcome to join us and have a good time cooking, wheeling and drinking some cold beers.
