Whats the word, anyone put the CB antenna in place of the radio? I dont care about the radio antenna I have an auto with nothing screwed into it. All I hear is a motor, three years later ive never needed the real antenna, im looking to do the CB in ashtray mod, however the most common-sense option is to replace the radio antenna with a CB after all i wouldn't wanna puncture the new coastal bumpers unnecessarily right? So how about it, tell me why i've never seen anyone put the CB on the antenna to keep an OEM look. Which is what my overall goal is. Sleeper on the dunes!! And any other trail for that matter!

I don't see anything that would make this difficult. Just make some sort of bracket that mounts off the inner fender supports and lets a CB antennae screw right in. I think the reason we haven't seen this before is just because people don't like ditching the factory antennae even though nobody probably uses it anymore these days. I've probably never used the factory antennae since I bought my truck.

I’ve seen a couple people mount theirs on ditch light brackets.

It would be nice to have the functionality without an additional mounting point anywhere though! Especially if you dont use the radio antenna, nevertheless though, this is great information I appreciate the contribution!

I've been researching this a little, seems as though a lot of Land Cruiser guys do this. Interesting plot twist is that they actually use the CB antenna for both the factory radio and their cb unit. Im going to see about a mounting mechanism.

Actually the test went great and there has been no interference with it! I have been crazy busy with some garden planters and my girlfriends subi but i WILL post a writeup... at some point.
Definitely interested in that for my taco. Would be neat to have the cb antenna up there working for both the radio and cb

Look forward to it. If nothing else post your parts list for now and we can likely wing the install issues (obviously lacking your 'lessons learned' first hand knowledge.) But it makes sense that it should work - in particular for standard CB performance. Jump to wanting more discrete SW or anything extreme I think you might want to supplement, but being lazy at the moment I don't want to do the head work.

Now that I think about this more... isn't this a pretty common thing for boats. One moment.

Bingo... https://www.boatersland.com/sha4357...s_yVZv8WAjX-V2z6w0BkYbVSamJlFyp4aAm62EALw_wcB Which is really VHF/AM/FM so not quite right.

Oh, and this one... apparently lets you do the conversion in a "stealth" fashion keeping your AM/FM antenna and using it for CB, but I can't imagine that gives adequate performance.

Seems the last two are both from ProComm: http://procommproducts.com/uploads/3/5/1/9/35194334/pg44_radio_accessories.pdf

So, then the question becomes more about mounting as @AssBurns mentioned.

Sorry I got a little fixated on this topic after this past weekend. My wife and I were heading to the mountains for some biking and she turned the radio on... the junk OEM power antenna 'punched out' and fully ejected from the vehicle (decided it was done apparently). Funny as fuck, but now I have to talk to my wife while we drive along. LOL JK.

LOL no biggie at all! That is hilarious, my antenna never worked to begin with, kind of a weird vehicle to put an auto antenna on tbh. I will look over those links you posted as well, ill take some pics for a writeup when I go back through to clean everything up, i did a half ass job because I wasnt sure if it would work or not

What length CB coax did you use? Even with a 9 foot cable, there's a ton of slack. Did you just coil up the excess behind the glove box or something?
