Full day today. Suspension turned out great and it drives amazingly. Not like a boat anymore. I learned a couple of things, too. Like ratcheting end wrenches are the shit. And I don’t have any.

Mike from Exit Off Road published a video recently on how to easily replace the front suspension on a Toyota. Compared to other videos I watched on the subject, I was surprised how simple it was. And it worked just as he said. Take the two bolts out of the lower ball joint, loosen the LCA bolts at the frame a bit, swing the whole thing down out of the way. Loosen the nuts bolts at the top of the strut, whole thing falls out the bottom. Reverse to put it back. Then R&R the UCA. Surprisingly easy. Antilock wires on the Dobs UCAs were in a weird spot so had to do some creative wiring. Wrapped the cable with a lot of electrical tape for padding and wire tied it to the bracket so there was no strain or chafing. I’ll be sure to let Mike know about it.

Rear wasn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be, but still not horrible. Might not disconnect the panhard bar if I had to do it again, but still got ‘er done. My son helped on the rear setup. He learned a few things, too. 20yo gotta learn some life skills other than video games! But with all the teachable moments happening, I forgot to photograph the rear completion. Already had the tires on before I realized it.

Here’s photos of the day.

It's a lot easier if you drop the panhard in the rear for the coils. I usually do the panhard and the upper on the driver side. Or panhard and both uppers at the axle side. Makes life easier. Just make sure you disconnect the abs wire at the frame.
