that'd be mine.
my intention was, initially, just SAS it. NorCal offers mostly rockcrawling anyways.
a visit to SoCal to wheel with Steven and others really got me interested in seeing this idea through to realization, so here we are.

LMAO. I can picture @AssBurns selling this to you.

In a Steven voice: "IFS is so much better for go fast stuff and it can hang in the rocks. We just need to build a bigger, better IFS front end. How about we use your rig so I can still wheel mine during the project?"

Although I bet he didn't say that last sentence but he should have. lol

That isn't far from how it went.
I just have the advantage of running an humongous fabrication shop with access to all the goodies necessary to do this. I am also in the same complex as RuffStuff, so should I need anything from them it's a short walk to their door.

Basically sums it up lol. My bad ideas are contagious.
Between the idea that we can build something that is different and innovative (in a way), and the benefits of being able to go fast while still being a daily driver capable vehicle, it didn't take much to convince him to hop on board.
Me.
I am beer.
Yes.

Making a little bit of progress on the 9" IFS housing. It's actually getting somewhere. We did run into an issue with the bends in the housing. Somehow we (@Konkordmusk) must have got the bends off a bit since the housing doesn't match up to the face plate. We will have to back into it and see where we are off. We cross checked the files I sent him, but that's where we stopped.

We also have a really neat spreadsheet going.
With some very valuable and relevant information.
Helps us keep track of...current events.
I'll add the beer tab later.
Still SOOO much to add to every aspect of that spreadsheet. Maybe need to stop drinking beer just to find room in the budget lol

I might've missed it when I read through the thread a few days ago but what gearing are you planning on running?

Also, what program are you using for CAD? I got basic ideas down in SketchUp in the past and then started using Onshape afterward to do finer modeling. Don't have the money for the industry standard tools.

The gearing number is arbitrary as of yet.
I am doing my LS swap first, and I have enough spare parts to do Stevens as well. We may end up somewhere around 4.56 for axle gearing.

Steven uses Fusion 360. I use a few here at the shop. OMAX Layout, QCad, Sheetcam, and occasionally SketchUp for anything I need to 3d print.

fuck that. make another commission and that pays for all the beer.

Did Steven update you that we get to figure this front diff/center mount nonsense out on my truck after you get yours done?

I MAY end up with lower gearing than @Konkordmusk. He plans to be able to daily drive his and drive on the road much more than I do. I want to have more low end power since I won't be doing as much highway driving. I plan to do quite a bit of desert driving, and I don't want to put too much stress on the transmission. A lot of desert guys run an underdrive to reduce the loads on the transmission, and keep the gear ratios happy. I however won't be able to run an underdrive since I will technically already have an underdrive once I do the LS swap (NP203/205 doubler) but for crawling which will be too much for desert stuff (2.0:1 ratio). Now a 1.5:1 ratio might be plausible to keep the gears in the 4's but still kinda steep.
Anyway, I plan to try to keep my RPM's at a higher level so my shift points will be able to be in the 1st -3rd gear range in most of the desert stuff rather than being stuck in the 1st/2nd gears majority of the time. Remember we are planning to run bigger tires (my plan is 39's)

Here is the charts from the GrimJeeper site comparing 4.56 gears to 5.29 gears.
