Yeah, I could get cozy there :p
I'm in for this. I gotta get a earlier start this year on getting back into hiking shape before August for the hunt.

29 Miles and 8,500 feet of gain. Did you try to do it in one day? If I can get to the point where I can do this trail in one day before August I'll be set for the hunts.
No! Definitely wasn't planning to do it in a day. I was going to do at least one night, but I had plans to possibly spend another night up there and hit Yucaipa ridge if I was in the mood to do some more hiking. Yucaipa ridge doesn't have any legitimate trails, but it's a steep ridge that would be a fun hike. I've always wanted to check it out, but never got around to it. The bottom entrances are all on private property, and the only ways up are up some seriously steep climbs that would take forever. So my plan was to cut across the "jump-off" from San Gorgonio Wilderness to the top of Yucaipa Ridge, that way I didn't have to do any major climbing for very long, then take the ridge downhill into Yucaipa. It probably adds another 7-10 miles to the trip, but it would pretty much hit every peak in that area of the mountains.
Permit time for Mt Whitney should be coming up in Feb. You guys should try to get that one. It's a great hike but you'll definitely need to be in shape for it. My days of long hikes are likely over thanks to the plate holding my pelvis together.
I did Whitney last summer. It was a blast, but not something I'd be wanting to do again. I'd rather try something different that I haven't done before.
Sorry missed this thread - with my dad passing away I have been a bit out of commission trying to help my mom (and wheeling for sanity).

With not knowing what job I will have at that time don't plan around me. The only thing I would throw out is later might be better for me - September-ish
Sorry to hear about your dad.

Depending what dates work best for others, I could pull off pretty much any time we setup.

Sorry to hear about your dad man.

You'll stay on the list until you ask to be removed. If you can make it great, if not I totally get it. If we pick dates that don't work and you still wanna come down and wheel I'm down for whatever you pick.

Dusy is such a rad time!

For those asking how tight it is, I’ve seen pics of guys going through in full-size rigs

When me and a buddy went in 2014 I had a double cab long bed 140” wheelbase 2nd gen Tacoma with 2” LT, 37s, and I didn’t really have any trouble at all. Tightest part was coming down the gatekeeper. Did my beside in pretty good. Squeezing around the long way the big tree got me just before this video

That's a long vehicle to take on Dusy. Pretty cool that you did it in that limo. I was making fun of @Tetten and @Mike_taco4x4 for having "Trail Limo's" with their DCSB's.

So you coming this trip?

If I didn't have the tubes coming off my brute force rear bumper protecting the bedsides I would've smashed them tens times on that trail. Best wheeling trip I've ever been on. I don't specifically remember a gatekeeper obstacle. Even if you make it past a gatekeeper people are in for it once they hit Thompson hill. Lol

We went up Thompson hill, and this gatekeeper (what I’ve heard it called) is at the very far end of the trail. There’s like 30 mins of trail remaining after this.

We didn’t have any trouble up Thompson hill. My buddy and I walked up it like nothing, maybe it wasn’t as bad that year.

Here’s me crawling up a small portion of it

So you coming this trip?

Only if we do the rubicon after.

Haha I dunno man I was wanting to go to moab in April/May then go to MCR. But I’m not sure what will happen now with a sas in the future.

Thompson Hill was no joke last year. I've talked to a few people that said that it was the worse they've seen it. I don't know because it was the first time I was ever on it. I do know I busted 2 CV's on it and it took the group a few hours to get up it.

I also busted my last CV at the "gatekeeper" at the end of the trail. I threw in @AssBurns stubs and wheeled out in 2wd lo/lo without a tug. lol

Not necessarily, I've done it in previous years with my dad with only a rear locker.

There's even guys on youtube doing it without lockers, and have gotten through. All depends on the trail conditions I guess.
I think it's definitely doable without a front locker, but for the pace we want to keep in our group, we want everyone to be dual locked. I did most of Thomson Hill without my front locker, but there were two spots that would have taken a lot of rock stacking to get through without a front locker. Saved a lot of time and effort to just flick on the front locker and cruise right up.

The reality of it is for this group you're going need to be dual locked and 35s to keep up. Unless you've got a crawl box, then you have a fighting chance. I didn't make last year's trip but the stories I've heard in comparison to some of the trails we've run together tell me it's a no joke trail.

It took us 5 or 6 hours to run a 1 1/2 mile stretch wash with some very capable rigs. I was told Dusy was basically like that 1 1/2 mile stretch, but for almost the entire 30 miles.

Yeah, I guess it depends on the group and the pace you wanna keep.

Doubt I'll be dual locked, but I'll be doing the Dusy sometime in August most likely and will report how it goes. If all is well, I'll join right in.

If not, I'll have some cold beers waiting for ya'll at the end.

Exactly. Depending on group size, having only 1 locker isn't that big of a deal, but if you have more than 5 rigs in the group, any little thing exponentially delays the group. I'm sure most of us have already learned our lessons on big groups on harder trails. Once we get closer to this trip, we can see how many people are ACTUALLY going, and determine if something like 1 locker is acceptable for what we are looking to do. But yes, COLD BEERS are absolutely necessary!

Put me on that list!

Hopefully I'll get my rear locker by then!

I'll keep it in mind but as others have mentioned dual locked will be a requirement.

Like you posted above trail conditions may make it passable with just the rear locked. Last years trail was a bitch. I very seldom use my front locker. On the Dusy I used it a lot.

This year we might cruise though it in much better conditions without much trouble. Then I'd get to feel like an ass for excluding people that most likely could have enjoyed the trail with us. Not knowing for certain though means I won't put the rest of the group in a position that could slow us down.

We will get out and wheel though. I did plenty of hard trails open/open. Just not the Dusy. lol

Bumping this shit show.

Who's still in and what dates? I think most people don't care about the dates, but a couple have limitations. Who is limited on when they can go? those that don't care, can work with whatever.

I don’t care what dates, but I do need to plan this sooner than later to make sure I don’t get fucked at work by requesting the same days off as other people on my team at work.

Late September is best for me with my current project. But knowing my company they'll pull me off when its easier and plug me in to another disaster i have to fix.lol
I think September 21-29 will be my vacation request.
9-21 drive up and camp at Courtright resevoir
9-22 Camp at Thompson Lake
9-23 to 9-25 Just finish by sept 25. Really want to camp at Dusy Lake this time.
What to do with the rest of the time? Trails in area? Rubicon? We were all pretty beat up after Dusy last year so maybe we plan for 2 option after. Hard stuff or some chill scenic camping in sierras
