Emissions issue?

The situation

My 2WD SR5 Sport has Cali emissions

My 4WD SR5 has Federal emissions

Both passed their last smog tests and visual inspection. Getting ready to sell 2WD and swapping parts over, including hoods.

I put the sport hood (w/Cali emissions sticker) on the 4WD with Fed emissions and now the stickers don't match the equipment on the trucks.

Should I swap stickers between the hoods? Like use a heat gun to remove and reglue on the opposite hood?

Should I see if I can order 2 new stickers from a dealer?

I doubt it actually matters to be honest as long as you can smog.

^^same. But really it's Cali so who knows. But if you pass then I'm sure the 20 something year old working the smog station won't give a fuck.

My guess is they’ll either plug in the vin for the final say, or take a look and notice that your federal emissions only has 1 cat. Wouldn’t hurt to call a smog shop and ask before putting time, energy or money into the sticker idea.

To be fair, when I registered the truck it had Oregon plates and they looked at the sticker under the hood before they would transfer title and register.the truck. I'll make a few calls tomorrow and see what the a shop.and the dealer says.

I don't want to sell the 2WD and have the future owner have issues getting smogged

I would order stickers from Toyota or try to swap. Our vehicles are getting older and that means every now and then they'll tell you that you need to go to a STAR inspection station (i.e. not test only). Those folks have those lifts that let them get under your vehicle to get a good look at cat's and exhaust piping. Another thing they do is follow the diagrams on the sticker under the hood to ensure all your emission hoses are correct and not bypassed. I had to do this a couple years ago and smog tech was a stickler about the fact I had silicone hoses...I had to run home swap to rubber hoses then go back for the pass. So when a young inexperienced smog tech starts to see things not align I doubt they'll dig into the VIN and make sure things are good to go and instead fail you. Seems like a pain in the ass for what is likely a $5-$10 dollar sticker.

I'm of the same mindset.

I called Longo Toyota, they can't find it in their system and have to call Toyota corporate; they'll get back to me next week.

If they can't get them I'll peel and swap very carefully with a heat gun and goof off

God this all sounds like a major pita and a waste of time. I have no more info to add just here to see how it goes. Where I live they don't do smog and in az vehicles over 25 years I think are considered historic vehicles that don't require smog. Might be 30 years. But either way. Sorry you have to go through all this crap.

You have to register them as historic, then you are allowed a certain amount of miles per year.

Vehicles pre 67 are exempt from state sca... er I mean emissions.

1975 is the cut off in CA for emissions exempt vehicles. It used to be a rolling 20 years but the CA legislature and DMV suspended that years ago.

The dealer could not get them, they are discontinued, but google was able to help

Found them online at various sites as well as Amayama. I ordered one of each.
