I feel like I need a new gun, but I can't get ammo so it's really not even worth the hassle right now.

Actually, Maybe a 10/22 for the kid's birthday. He likes my Marlin, but tube load is a pain in the ass for him.

Not sure the distance he was shooting last weekend because I didn't take the range finder but it was further than when we were out back in October. Unfortunately I was rescuing marines while @lord helmet babysat Rambo, but he was definitely hitting the targets I set up for him while I was gone after a quick scope adjustment.

I've got multiple 22 rifles, but two need work so they're currently not in use. 10/22 takedown looks fun. Bolt action is fun too, I borrowed one from my neighbor awhile back. I'll have to see who has stock.

May put the .22 Ruger RPR up for sale and get something different.

10/22 takedown in a magpul backpacker stock is a sweet little package. Probably one of my favorites.

Bolt guns are too fun and will help not burn through ammo as quickly.

Why not both?

I like my marlin 80, was just thinking a 10/22 would be easier for the kid to load mags and shoot. I'll probably get both eventually, but I think a bolt action for him will be better short term. Means I'll have to buy another scope too.

Scopes for the 10/22 are cheap but if his eyes can do it I’d force him to learn iron sights

Other then my hunting rifle I prefer iron sights.

As much as I'd prefer him to learn iron sights, I don't think he's ever going to be able to do it. I've got the vortex on the marlin, I'll probably just buy another one.
