I always wondered if there was a solution to fitting 15 inch wheels on the front of our rigs. Maybe shave the caliber a bit? Steel wheels?
I've never tried to fit 15's personally, but everyone I've spoken to says that only 4cyl base models could fit 15's. The vehicles equipped with the tow package came with larger brakes and the need for 16" wheels.I don't remember an issue with 15s on a 1st gen Taco/3rd gen Runner but I could be wrong. The issue was with 2nd gen Taco/4th gen Runner.
Cheaper tire cost is awesome! Much cheaper. Plus the increased sidewall is a benefit too. I hate the idea of going to 17's for a crawler tire for anything under 37's. I wouldn't mind a 17" wheel for the desert though. Some 3rd gen base models came with 15” wheels but my understanding is the brake calipers were smaller than the ones that came with 16” wheels (which was most of them). My old ‘96 2wd SR5 had the 15” split spokes that are identical design-wise to the 16” version. It also had a tow hitch though.
From previous threads I’ve read on T4R.org either low backspaceor spacers should fit them if you really wanted to rock them. God knows the rubber’s cheaper!
So the Tacoma's must use the same brakes as the 4cyl 4Runners then. Not sure I'd want to down size my brakes. I'm sure I could modify my caliper and run steelies to fit some 15's. Maybe I'll measure the ID of my brothers spare steel wheel for his jeep, then compare my caliber radius measurements.from what ive seen and read, it seems to be more of an issue on the 4runners rather than tacomas. me and every first gen taco i wheel with all clear 15 inch wheels, but a 4runner i had parted out actually has a bigger caliper and rotor from what i noticed. not sure on the magic combination of what does or doesnt clear a 15
I have no idea. Definitely need something thinner. No more than 7" wide, since I want to get some 10.5" wide tires.I think some steelies would fit. What BS would you need?
What are you currently running wheel wise? Any spacers?I have no idea. Definitely need something thinner. No more than 7" wide, since I want to get some 10.5" wide tires.

Stock 16” five stars with 1.25” spacers. What are you currently running wheel wise? Any spacers?
Exactly. That combo works, but IMO a narrower wheel on a smaller rim is preferable. My rigs got 17 x 9 rims and it crawls a bit. On 33's. My rims have more than a little rock rash though. lol
Caliber? Are we talking about guns here?!
