Emissions stuff seems to trip a code more often than not, so I’m also inclined to believe it’s most likely mechanical. I replaced my fuel pump a month ago but didn’t have any drivability issues like what you’re experiencing. Occasional stumble on startup and then one day it just wouldn’t start. It certainly could be that or a fuel filter though. The filter is cheap enough to replace and easy enough to get to. Wouldn’t hurt to baseline it if you keep coming up with dead ends on the vacuum side.

edit: IAC also could be gunked up or malfunctioning. That could explain going from throttle to cruising and it not wanting to maintain a lower engine rpm

Are you still having overheating issues? Could check for fuel aeration or vapor lock? Shit fuel line somewhere? Can of seafoam in the tank never hurt anyone either... it has to be something mechanical if it's not setting a cel
I haven’t been digitally monitoring the temps but the gauge isn’t creeping up at all, so it could be getting hot but not hot enough to move the needle.
I was having issues with the fuel tank building pressure when we were rapidly gaining elevation last week. Wonder if it was vapor lock. How do I check for that?
fuel pump.
I need to fix whatever problem is with the sending unit soon anyways so might as well replace the pump while I’m at it. PO said it was recently replaced though.

I get some stumbles on startups every once in a while.
Pretty sure I replaced the fuel filter when I got the rig a few months ago. Cheap enough to replace again for good measure if necessary.
Baseline it? What does that mean?
I should probably clean the TB so I’ll do a good cleaning of the IAC while I’m in there

Baseline meaning if you don’t have history on the last time it was replaced, you will have a starting point from here forward. Like diff oil, plugs/ wires, etc. after getting a used vehicle with limited known maintenance.

Oh gotcha!
Yeah I did a few basic things like plugs, filters, oil change.

Vapor lock is when fuel temps reach boiling point under the hood. You're probably fine since you haven't seen an increase in engine temp but the tank pressure makes me think something is up with your evap system

Got the RAD Designs twin sticks installed on the case @theesotericone gave me. Overall pretty easy install other than the front driveshaft yoke that was a pain in the ass to get the nut off. I tried for a while with the impact and nothing. Tried a breaker bar and nothing. Didn’t want to break the damn breaker bar. Ended up letting it soak in PB blaster for a bit then heated it up with a torch a little. Finally got it after hitting it with the impact a few more times. What’s weird is the rear flange nut came off super easy.

Just need to get the driveshafts to install everything.

Saw a few pre-runner bumpers on 4runners recently and realized I wanted to make my own. Picked up some DOM this morning along with a tube roller to radius the top tube like I did the last couple bumpers I built. The plan for this one is simple, decent clearance and light weight. Also got the Desolate Motorsports 6” valence kit to fill in the bumper so you don’t see all the core support and all the wires n shit that makes tube bumpers look too busy.

We’ll see how it turns out.

So I guess I’ll know how mine will look if I decided to add the valence to it? I think it could sure use something to fill in the area below the headlights

The original plan for that bumper was to do a valance on it, but just never got around to it. I think it’ll look better with a valance on it.

I couldn’t help myself :deadbanana:
We all knew what would happen
My wife is saying the same thing. I have a problem.

Got quite a bit of progress done on the bumper. Still need to do a few things such as side support tubes, valence aluminum skid, mount lights, cap the ends of the tubes.
Eventually once I find some more time I’ll do an aluminum skid down to the bottom of the bulkhead (between the diff mounts.)

Looks awesome dude, can't wait to see how it looks all finished. I can't imagine how quickly those would sell if you had the time/resources/want to sell them; LT is so "cool" in the 4x4 world right now, at least on IG.

Left Havasu early this morning instead of staying for the day, so I can get some progress done on this bumper. Overall made good progress. Got where I wanted to for today. Still need to cap the ends of the tubes, do the lower tubes from the radiator crossmember down to the bulkhead between the diff mounts. Gonna build some tube standoffs for the down tubes to connect to. Also going to use those standoffs for the IFS skid mounts. Gonna do a super simple skid since this is going to be a desert/camping/exploring rig, not a crawler.
I was able to repurpose the old beat up skid from the first bumper I built on the BeerRunner. Since this skid was so much smaller, I was able to cut a perfect piece that missed all the dents. Still has some scrapes but no big deal. I need to buy more aluminum for the lower skid, then I’ll get this thing painted. Debating wether I go gray (like steel-it or a knockoff thereof) or to just do the traditional semi-gloss black.
