It’s like you’re trying to 1up @4runner DOA in trail damageWell that was a fun trip even with some damage. We did Mojave Trail again this past weekend. I went with a group that’s never been and they planned for two nights/three days on the trail which was entirely too much. We finished in two days which is perfect if you want to still check out some sights along the way. It was a blast as always to see all the different places and terrain changes along the way.
Of course no good trip comes without it’s issues. My buddy’s XJ was having the traditional Jeep overheating issues but overall did good as long as we kept moving more than a few miles an hour.
I of course didn’t get away unscathed. I was cruising around 40 mph over some small crests catching some minor air over them then came up on one that had a bit more of a lip and caught more air than I anticipated. Ended up coming down with the front end right into a whoop. Hit so hard the windshield cracked, bent an alloy wheel, and caused a bit more core support damage in the process. The wheel bent enough to rub on the spindle but still held air which was good. We swapped over the spare and finished the last 10-15 miles.
I only brought 2 gallons of spare fuel and knew I was cutting it close due to how much back tracking I did from speeding up a few miles ahead of the group then turning around to meet back up for beer breaks. I took it easy the last 40 miles or so just to make sure I conserved fuel. The last couple miles I noticed a couple spots where it sputtered a little. I literally ran out of gas pulling into the gas station and coasted and lost momentum like 10’ from the pump. Luckily I was able to restart the truck after a sec and drive the last few feet. Super good timing! Haha
On the way home from Laughlin today I had my stock spare tire delaminate on the highway and completely fuck up my front fender, and valence. Luckily the tire held air and I was able to get to a safe place off the highway. Since my other wheel was bent I opted to call AAA and have them tow me to a tire shop in Needles. Got a used tire on there and made it home with no more issues.
I gotta figure out what I’m gonna do about the cracking core support. I have some pretty bad gaps in the fender/hood lines. The headlight is looking pretty sad with things not lining up to the hood. I don’t want to just swap it with something stock but also don’t want to go all out with an engine cage either. I’ll try to find a simple solution that doesn’t involve anything crazy.

Tires vs body damage and aluminum skid plates, I’ll take tires any dayI'm not the one that keeps blowing out tires.
WTF…you take to much estrogen today??? There needs to be some blood involved to make it a good story!! Your period blood doesn’t count. At least no one was hurt, vehicles can b repaired or replaced.
I guess ur right, technically one can replace kids and wife's but that's a lot of work and effort lost and needed to get new ones....WTF…you take to much estrogen today??? There needs to be some blood involved to make it a good story!! Your period blood doesn’t count.
You got a spare tire with no tread? Lmao. I got a brand new ko2 315/75/16 if you want it.Well that was a fun trip even with some damage. We did Mojave Trail again this past weekend. Technically there was blood. My 4yo son touched the windshield and got a little cut.WTF…you take to much estrogen today??? There needs to be some blood involved to make it a good story!! Your period blood doesn’t count.
It had lots of tread when I put it on. It just all came off when we got onto the highway. You got a spare tire with no tread? Lmao. I got a brand new ko2 315/75/16 if you want it.
Dang. Well glad you guys ok. That couldve been shitty. I want an invite on the next run!Technically there was blood. My 4yo son touched the windshield and got a little cut.

If I drove like a normal person in the desert, then I might not have these issues as much lolMan that thing is just becoming a money pit. Hopefully a simple fix other than dropping the transmission. Again.
