Well that was a fun trip even with some damage. We did Mojave Trail again this past weekend. I went with a group that’s never been and they planned for two nights/three days on the trail which was entirely too much. We finished in two days which is perfect if you want to still check out some sights along the way. It was a blast as always to see all the different places and terrain changes along the way.
Of course no good trip comes without it’s issues. My buddy’s XJ was having the traditional Jeep overheating issues but overall did good as long as we kept moving more than a few miles an hour.
I of course didn’t get away unscathed. I was cruising around 40 mph over some small crests catching some minor air over them then came up on one that had a bit more of a lip and caught more air than I anticipated. Ended up coming down with the front end right into a whoop. Hit so hard the windshield cracked, bent an alloy wheel, and caused a bit more core support damage in the process. The wheel bent enough to rub on the spindle but still held air which was good. We swapped over the spare and finished the last 10-15 miles.
I only brought 2 gallons of spare fuel and knew I was cutting it close due to how much back tracking I did from speeding up a few miles ahead of the group then turning around to meet back up for beer breaks. I took it easy the last 40 miles or so just to make sure I conserved fuel. The last couple miles I noticed a couple spots where it sputtered a little. I literally ran out of gas pulling into the gas station and coasted and lost momentum like 10’ from the pump. Luckily I was able to restart the truck after a sec and drive the last few feet. Super good timing! Haha
On the way home from Laughlin today I had my stock spare tire delaminate on the highway and completely fuck up my front fender, and valence. Luckily the tire held air and I was able to get to a safe place off the highway. Since my other wheel was bent I opted to call AAA and have them tow me to a tire shop in Needles. Got a used tire on there and made it home with no more issues.

I gotta figure out what I’m gonna do about the cracking core support. I have some pretty bad gaps in the fender/hood lines. The headlight is looking pretty sad with things not lining up to the hood. I don’t want to just swap it with something stock but also don’t want to go all out with an engine cage either. I’ll try to find a simple solution that doesn’t involve anything crazy.

WTF…you take to much estrogen today??? There needs to be some blood involved to make it a good story!! Your period blood doesn’t count.
Technically there was blood. My 4yo son touched the windshield and got a little cut.

It had lots of tread when I put it on. It just all came off when we got onto the highway.

Got the high stall TC installed this weekend. Not super noticeable on the street with regular driving but feels much better in the dirt. Gets the RPM’s up to a useable range much quicker and gets out of corners faster. I’m really happy with it.
Fixed the rear coil buckets that cracked. Also found that the perches for the motor mounts had all the ears cracked off. Fixed it with some plate

Now time to figure out what to do about the collapsing core support.

Well shit…
Decided to drive the 4runner to work today and as soon as I pulled onto the main road I lost all power to the wheels. Basically felt like it went into neutral. Luckily I was around the corner and had my wife tow me back home with my truck. I assume the flex plate is what broke because the starter just spins with no motor cranking. Wonder what happened and why

Man that thing is just becoming a money pit. Hopefully a simple fix other than dropping the transmission. Again.
