Well shit…
Decided to drive the 4runner to work today and as soon as I pulled onto the main road I lost all power to the wheels. Basically felt like it went into neutral. Luckily I was around the corner and had my wife tow me back home with my truck. I assume the flex plate is what broke because the starter just spins with no motor cranking. Wonder what happened and why

It's all broken now. Just LS swap this one as well now. :popcorn2:

Had some time this evening after a work event to drop the trans again to confirm the issue was the flex plate. Luckily that’s all it seemed to be. I picked up a new flex plate and put it all back together. Took it for a test drive to go pick up dinner and it drove well. Hoping that the issue was due to the bad motor/transmission mounts allowing the motor and trans to basically flop around. I noticed after that hard hit on Mojave Trail that I had a ticking noise again. Figured at the time it may have just been a bad lifter. I guess I was wrong and it must’ve been a cracked flex plate. What’s weird is I inspected the flex plate when I had the trans out and couldn’t see any cracks. Must’ve been starting from the inside so I couldn’t really see it.
Either way it’s done and running again. Really hoping that’s the last of my issues with this.

Ordered some new springs for the rear. I've been running these Jeep JL 4 door front springs for about a year on this rig and another year or two on the BeerRunner. The reason I liked these is they are tall and soft. Even at full droop they stay in the coil bucket well, but they are nice and soft for comfort/ride quality while netting about 2" of lift. Well they are getting pretty worn out and probably about 1" of lift with a bit of weight (family, full tank, and cooler). That's eating up my up travel and ride quality so I ordered 2.5" lift springs for a Jeep JL 2 door. Based on MetalCloaks website, it looks like the heavier 4 door will net about 1" less ride height with the same springs than a 2 door would. So if a stock 4 door spring gets me 2" of lift, then a stock 2 door spring would get me 1" of lift. I ordered a 2.5" lift spring for a 2 door, which should net me about 3.5" of lift with minimal weight. These tall soft springs should help ride quality and hold weight better than the stock ones would since I always have a little bit of weight with the family and cooler. Looking forward to seeing how they perform.

I’m running the discontinued Toytec Superflex that give about the same height, but are rated at 240lbs. Mostly because I do load up on weight for road trips and they have one of the longer free heights without getting a coil that will be over 4”+ lift unloaded. I get about 3-3.25” lift unloaded with the stock rubber bumps removed. I just wish they sat like 1” lower but they are the best all around coil for my uses. I run a rear sway bar, and you’re only getting so much droop travel while that’s attached anyhow, even with extended sway bar links.

I’ll still be interested in your thoughts on them once you’ve broken them in and put them through their paces.

Yeah I’d think the Superflex coils would be the most similar to these. These should have a lighter spring rate most likely. I need to weigh my 4runner with basic gear versus loaded up for trips. Curious to know how much weight I have when loaded up. I try to avoid bringing too much shit and extra weight but with the family and gear it adds up for sure.

That sucked. $436 to replace my windshield on this damn thing. Wish I opted for the insurance coverage for it on this vehicle. Might need to change that. Anyone know if a windshield replacement counts as a negative ding on your insurance?

It doesn't on mine. I have a 0 dollar deductible for theft/vandalism/windshields via State farm.

dam my last one a couple of months ago was $275 and I thought that sucked because before covid it was $200 (Through a one man business I use). Guess it must depend upon ur insurance because I have a couple of buddies that found out the hard way the windshield rock chip repairs through their insurance was a neg ding...

I was expecting like $250-300 but unfortunately not the case. I’ve never had to replace a windshield before so this was all new to me.
I’ll call my insurance to see how they treat this stuff with windshield replacement. I’d like to keep my insurance record clean if possible. Finally have good rates from clean record and getting older

The other day I noticed my brake lights and instrument panel lights stopped working. Ended up being a blown fuse. Thought it was kinda weird and figured if it happened again I’d check out my wiring from my whip light that I wired to the tail lights. Well today on the way home the lights went out again. Pulled things apart and couldn’t find an issue. Tried looking at wiring from the tail lights forward to the fuse panel. Couldn’t find anything. Checked trailer wiring harness, looked around the dash and still nothing.
Ended up being the front corner light wiring. When I landed super hard a few weeks ago I lost the light. The wires were exposed and touching each other. Luckily it was a simple fix but it took me like two hours of fucking with things to find the issue. Makes sense why it was intermittent issues. Probably bounced around and moved with the wind that caused them to touch randomly.
