I'm pretty sold on full-hydro. I'd love the unit bearing, but my only apprehension is my desire to keep the manual hubs. No such option on the 4th gen to my knowledge.

There is a manual hub solution. I can't remember what it was and you'd have to look at #fucktw to find it, but a dude was selling a conversion kit to make 2nd gen tacos a manual hub.

Found! Looks like he takes the manual hubs that I have off of a tacoma hub assembly and installs it into the unit bearing to be then bolted into a 4th gen cv. So, I could make the jump from press fit bearing assembly to unit bearing assembly which is a plus and run an RCV 30spline/27spline custom cv to the 8" IFS differential and use the 4th gen spindle hub carrier as a base to build my own spindles off of.... Seems legit. Good thing I'm already 3/4ths of the way there. Just need the unit bearing.

Getting excited about all of the information I've found on steering solutions, but the plan is to now wheel it hard and enjoy all this work so far as it warms up.

Bumper is coming together.

Facelift coming AGAIN. Headlights sold.... Bumper tuck and adding some platework to give it my own touch. Dimple Die of course.

If you go the 4th Gen front diff route get one from the v8 and eliminate the ADD altogether. We run that diff with a part-time tcase and have not seen any negative effects. Obviously, we don't run highway much, but even at Hammers we threw it in 2wd and mobbed down the highway after prerunning with no issues at 70. They say it can build up case pressure and push gear oil out of the shifter boot but you could always install a breather if it does end up doing that. (At least I think you can, that's how diffs work)

Just my .02, one less moving part. Ours held up to a good bit of King of the Hammers and some decently hard wheeling using the front locker fairly frequently.

Agreed. This is the way to go IMO. Less stuff to fail.

This is some good beta. My plan altogether has been to get the 8" and swap a non-add tube in and have one end cut down to accommodate the stock track width and keep my manual case with the doubler in front of it!

It's been a bit, but I resigned from my position with my previous employer, took a risk and started a new career with my dream company.... Crazy that they would relocate from El Cajon to 30 minutes away, but the 3 month process of getting in is over and I'm back in the shop more. Working on different stuff, but I desperately need to get this finished and mounted.

My steering killed itself, but more on that later. This is exciting to finally have a bumper after about 7 years sans bumper.

After initially trimming the pinch weld and preparing to do the sheet metal I decided I didn't want to deal with the dented up rear quarter panel corner. This will be a single patch job and get rid of that whole area!

New look! IMG_20210404_135049.jpg

Also scored a free elocked third member this weekend.... So SAS is definitely going to happen now. Will be modifying the housing I have for the front to accept the motor and the stud pattern for the diff. Once that's all sorted then the axles will be the next thing to order. Six shooter knuckles, hi steer arms, coilover tabs and link mounts!

For all you californians, I will be headed to watsonville to our company's location out there for a week Friday to Sunday. What should I do in so Cal, never been! Santa Cruz, scotts valley, el cajon, etc...?

Never been up to the Santa Cruz area.
El Cajon is basically Mexico, so make sure you get some good food while you are down there.

The boardwalk in santa cruz is cool. Lots of places to eat and grab a beer. Bay area isnt too far if you wanna see alcatraz, golden gate bridge, fisherman's wharf. Monterey has the aquarium if it's open. Gilroy is the garlic capital, but it's a pit unless there's a festival happening and I doubt there will be with covid.

Also that's northernish california. We're about 6 hours south.

Digging the new front end! It's hilarious how quickly the old "Toyota" emblem blew up in popularity on satoshi grilles in the 3rd gen community. That faux pro grill sure is a fresh take on the grill though, I'd sure like to see it in person. I'll be excited to see you dive into the solid axle swap!
