It took me years to do anything with the knowledge that I gained from that thread, but the time has come... Alas, Mayhem metalworks no longer makes the widening spacers, but that's pretty easily remedied with sourcing the material which I can link you to and a good machinist local to you :D

I'm in enough trouble at JD Fab...go easy, my checkbook is on life support.

Question out of curiosity. You stated that you wanted to widen the stock mini truck front axle +2' per side to match the rear axle at about 60". Do you WANT to have the width at 60" to be stock or would you rather have somewhere like 62" or 64" WMS? My thoughts are that you'll probably upgrade the rear axle in the future and typically folks go wider than stock for better clearance and stability. Just curious your future goals with this build.

As of right now, the idea is to go with a 60" WMS to WMS front and rear, but I'm also weighing the possibility of swapping to F/R land cruiser axles. That being said, I can't decide if I really want to go with the LC track width. I definitely won't be going with larger than a 35" tire and if I decide to stay with the 2.7L then I think the 60" width with the 8" centers would be perfect. If I dont stay with the 2.7 then I will likely go the route of a 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine. I think that this can be done with cost effectiveness in mind by factoring out the cost of labor for any of it. Someone want to convince me that LC axles with a 4cyl powertrain/drivetrain would be better? I'm open to input!

do you intend to cut the rear fenders? - stock width will tuck a 35, LC width will not.

There in lies the problem with that PHAT axle... I like keeping my proportions reasonable. I don't ever see myself going with larger than a 35" tire. To be honest I don't particularly care to cut the rear more than I have to.

This is the swap I have had on my mind to be honest!

Lots of 1st gen 85-87 guys look specifically for this 1.9 because it's easily modified for power and torque, and it fits. I really wanna sell this pile, but I do enjoy driving it still. Haha

Little bit of money and you can have 220HP and 50 mpg. I've thought of doing it a couple times, but once I fix the IP pump seal, the glow plugs, and glue the headliner up, it's going up for sale.

It's a fairly common idea among the 4cylinder based trucks because the driveline is so easily adaptable. I may have to do it, honestly....

Ok, ok.... last one IMG_20201208_220707.jpg

Once I get a bit of time here in the next week, @eimkeith bumper will be done and I'll be working on a build video to put out on Youtube. Some sort of tire carrier system to follow.... I'm really trying to think of the best way to go about it, but I'm almost certain I don't want any of that 'dual-swing BS'...

Yeah I did! I was wondering if I could do something similar, but my main concern would be tweaking the rear hatch. Ultimately I think it will be a hinge style tire carrier with the tire centered. I want this carrier to be as rigid as possible. I almost considered a bit of tubework to go up and around the roofline to tie the swingout into?
