Updating with a little bit of interior work. I stripped the inside of the truck down and cleaned out 25 years of dust, dirt, and debris. Cleaned up as good as I can and started laying down 80mil sound deadening on every surface I could. Trying to focus on good coverage in the wheel wells, large resonate panels, rear quarters, under the passenger seating areas all the way up to the firewall, and the roof. May have overdone it by purchasing 6 x 36 sq ft of material. Closed cell foam and mass loaded vinyl to follow.

Nice! I need to finish the sound deadening on mine someday.
What seats are those? Looks nice!

This jumped right to the top of my list of things to do because I am realizing that I don't love longer trips due to how much sheer noise there is from the outside. It's going to push me to finish the sheet metal work on the front wheel wells and get it all sealed up.... really been dreading finishing that. My focus is to get rid of the 'tin can' sound that the truck has on the highway and especially over rough roads with all the panels chattering against the metal.

The seats are what I believe to be some Sparco replica reclining bucket seats. They were the most comfortable looking option in my opinion on ebay. I'm sure someone offshore is replicating the design or something but they aren't a name brand. The steel frame of the seat looks to be of good quality, but I'll make any additional provisions that I might need to in order for it to be safe enough. Re-using the stock locations and making some steel seat track bases for them.

Got a link to those? Feedback when you get them installed might make me buy them. I need new seats in the Taco. If I get these I could take the seats from my rig and use those in the Taco. Win/win. lol

Yeah man!

They ship out of Chico, CA. I'm sure whoever imports these from the far east is based out there. If you're not familiar with the company NRG they make a lot of entry/middle of the road parts for tuners.... I'm 99% sure they source their seats from the same factory that these come out of. Right at the same exact price point too. I like the vinyl being that it's easier to clean.

Got the itch over the weekend while it froze here to find something suitable to freshen up the interior. A quick trip to the local fabric/hobby supply $50 in fabric and $20 in materials later.... A brand new headliner. Better than before. IMG_20210110_171340.jpg

Headliner fits and makes the FMU really pop!

The important part is that they are really comfy! the recliner works really nicely! Need to let the headliner cure with the contact cement that I used for another couple of days before I can re-install it! I'm going to have to make a mount for the 3rd field monitor bolt and then use some Sikaflex to attach it to the roof.

Now the real question is whether I should pick up two more seats and have them to swap in when we have friends along or should I forget about ever taking people along?

Two front seats only. That way you can still sleep in the back of the rig.

Should I just put the kids in storage eventually? Don't have them now, but we will
So the kids are in storage now. Between the ages of 1 and 7 you will be wheeling alone. Lol. Plenty of time before you need kid seats. If you want them to match then you might want to get them now but then be prepared storage them for a minute.

That's kind of what I am thinking. Maybe I can get that sorted out in the next few weeks to get a matching set.

You are doing it wrong if this is how you do things. We’ve taken our kids out since they were infants. Obviously we started by taking it easy and just cruising around but as they got older we do more. My son is 3 and loves wheeling. My daughter is 6 and loves it most of the time. She’s starting to get to the age where she wants to spend more time playing outside than sitting in the truck wheeling. We have to make time to let her play so she doesn’t get burnt out from wheeling.

I keep up and definitely aspire to the @AssBurns parenting methodology in this regard. Well, I have a couple projects I'll be doing for some people local to me here soon and those funds will probably go towards a matching second set for the rear of the truck and be kept in storage for the interim.

Yep that's happening to Robbie. Last few trips have been more wheeling than playing and exploring so he's getting burnt out on it. Time to start hitting all those roads and mines in JT I've been eyeballing.

You got sliders or something to step on to get in?
The bolsters on those seats are going to turn your brown eye blue real quick.

I have all of my material for the sliders cut, and I am planning to get them welded up really soon here. Admittedly I've put it off because I desperately need this bumper to be installed ASAP. I have the tube bender now to make some sleek tube slides.

NICE!
i had a pair of bucket seats in my 1st gen taco and those fucking things hurt when you go pop in and land on the bolster just right.
