As much as I hate XJ’s, I also love them. They are pieces of shit that just work really well for a cheap vehicle. I almost bought one when they were still super cheap in like 2011. I bought a motorcycle instead. I still have mixed feelings if I made the right decision. My brother wheels the shit out of his, and probably has invested less than $4k in total since he’s owned it almost 10 years now. I’d still rather have a V8 ZJ, but XJ’s are pretty cool too. I just hate unibodies.
Frame stiffeners

My Wife wheels it without care. It’s pretty great to see her wheeling her own rig.

Thing is on 33s, regeared, Dual ARBs, etc. we bought it partially built. Have less in in it than my rear end.

XJs certainly have their place. It allowed us to get her in her own trail rig. I certainly could not afford to build another Tacoma.

I await the day I have room for a tow pig and trailer.

I go back and forth on it.

It’s really nice. I kinda feel like a fag for towing it, but then after wheeling, I just drive on the trailer, strap it down and go home, then worry about any issues or airing up later.

The down side is you have to come out on the same trail head you went into. I like wheeling the mountains in VA/WV and there's still a highway transit to get back to where you left the tow pig.

Yeah it’s only good for certain trips. If it’s something like Ocotillo Wells or Johnson Valley, then it’s awesome since everything is in is all in the same area, but through trips it definitely doesn’t work. Gotta drive smarter on those trips

Also, if you don’t know or remember, I am the guy that gave you the sway bar and that you picked up wheels from in Charlotte. Whatever happened to your disconnecting sway bar idea anyway?

I do remember, I also came back to get those wheels from you a few years ago.

Two things happened: I grew a pair and learned to love body roll; and I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of connecting and disconnecting the damned thing. Mostly because crawling under a muddy truck at the trail head sucked, and the whole point was to have a swaybar for the highway ride home.

Other than that, it was a brilliant idea and worked flawlessly.:rofl:

I forget what the get-together was called, but it was a TW event with lots of people.

I know. I just wanted to give you shit. I doubt I will even do a build thread this time. I do need to copy my write up’s and bring them here though.

Gotcha on the sway bar. I didn’t run mine until I lowered the truck back down for long road trips. My poor Taco actually became the tow pig. The soft stock suspension will REALLY lean without it.

If I we're going to tow seriously I'd probably put it back on, even with a well dialed in setup a heavy trailer sucks without a sway bar, and frankly I'd probably add a rear sway bar too.
