Made it to Lincoln Nebraska tonight. Time to hit the hay for an early morning and hopefully make the 21 hour drive home tomorrow. I’d really like to be at work Tuesday morning.

Well our timeline was way off today. We slept in a little longer and wasn’t on the road till about 7am (5ish hours of sleep). We decided to actually stop and eat a real breakfast because Burger King and McDonald’s didn’t sound good at all.
Towing a boat at 70-75 takes way longer than 80-90mph.
Towing a boat gets 7mpg instead of 17, so more frequent gas stops.
We ate a real lunch (pizza) in Golden, CO.
Hit some light traffic going into the Rockies.
Got to Gypsum, CO and the fires caused us to take a detour, but the detour didn’t allow trailers or large vehicles... wish we knew that hours beforehand and saved tons of time. So we had to backtrack a bit to reach the 181, then cruise down to Salida (which is a beautiful drive), then the 50 through Gunnison, then all the way back to Grand Junction.
We thought for sure we could’ve made St George or Mesquite today but this last delay killed us. So lame. Now we won’t be home early enough to work tomorrow. Even more lame. So goddamn busy and working on a laptop through a phone hotspot doesn’t really work much.

That being said....
I am just a dumb carpenter, but I did some of my own calculations.
The HSS that the engineer specified were good for 122k# buckling load.
The HSS columns that I wanted to use were rated for 110k# buckling load.
Total load on the entire beam that I put in is 15.3k# as per the engineer.
Beam is in and I measured 7/16" sag. I plan on calculating the actual weight on the beam via reverse mathing that shit.
I will post the results of my reverse engineering for the one guy interested maybe @theesotericone

Busy fixing fuck ups at work that I knew were going to come back and bite me in the ass some day. Fortunately it was by direction of a VP (who's no longer with the company of course) and my boss has my back on it so we just point the finger at the dude who's already gone. Haha.
