How are you liking those tires? It’s most likely what I will go with when I get 35s and 5.29s.

I haven't had them long but so far I love them. They're a good bit louder and don't do as well on ice as my last tires but that's to be expected because of the whole MT vs AT. For a mud terrain though they do very well on packed snow as long as you have them at the right psi. They also kill it in deep snow, they clean out so damn well. I'm really excited to get them in the rocks. Only complaint is they don't give you room for error in the snow. They dig holes. Fast lol
Second pic is also at 5psi,with no beadlocked, and I did not blow a bead all day.

Just something to consider below of the Ring/Pinion tooth counts. Once you start getting into the higher gear ratios, the pinion gear gets smaller. So considering the below gear ratios, 3.73 would be the strongest followed by 4.30. Well I've broken two sets of 4.30 already (once with 33's and another with 35's) Both of those breakages were avoidable if I drove a little smarter. I have broken a set of 5.29 gears, but that was due to the backlash adjuster not being set properly (poor install), causing the whole carrier to shift to the side almost an inch and not have any contact between the ring and pinion gears. Chipped/chewed up the pinion gear a little, but the cause was from install, not gear strength.

3.73 = 41/11
3.90 = 39/10
4.10 = 41/10
4.11 = 37/9
4.30 = 43/10
4.56 = 41/9
4.88 = 39/8
5.29 = 37/7
5.71 = 40/7

I do believe that 4.88 is stronger than 5.29, but how much is what I don't think is as big of an issue as people claim. Smart driving is more important IMO. Too bad we don't have a 5.71 option for our front diff's or I would have probably gotten that ratio instead.
I believe it is an option. Or at least nitro lists it and Zuk has a few write-ups. But they're all in the old style 7.5 diff not the clamshell. It may not fit in the clamshell because the ring is so thick, I know there isn't much room in there. It's also not a super common ratio just because most don't run it untill they're trying to push 40s with a 22r

Overall I love this setup, cruises great on the highway up to 80mph with good power and has plenty of torque for crawling. I sit dead nuts on 3000 rpm at 80mph fwiw

I'm curious if that is speedo 80 or corrected for gears and GPS 80mph? I know I'm 5 speed and 4.88 but at 75mph (on GPS) Im at almost 3200 rpm.

It is on corrected GPS speed that's programed into my scanguage. 80 on the scanguage shows roughly 72 on the speedo. At 75 I'm at 2700 rpm.

The only thing affecting my speedo is the tires though because my speedo references the wheel speed sensors not the driveshaft. So gearing doesn't play a roll in the speed

5.29's with 265/70/17?! I bet that's fun out in the desert and around town.

You're fucking with me, right? Cant tell if youre being serious or joking...lol

Wouldn't know if its fun... lol, since shortly after getting it back from installing the gears and URD kit for the SC, I threw a knock sensor code so now I'm in the process of replacing both sensors and harness. For the short period of time driving it, it ran great. Cruising at 68-70 at 2800 rpm. My AFR was at 14.3 cruising but it ran rich (10.2) going uphill on the 14fwy.

No I'm being serious. The torque with that setup is probably a blast. Obviously highway driving sucks, but with your setup AND a supercharger, it probably gets up and goes quickly! I need more low end power, but don't want to spend the money on a SC.

Sucks you are having issues. Get that thing fixed and let us how how she does in the dirt. Sounds like a good time. Time for 35's though

I'll sell you some 295/70/17's for way cheaper then a super charger. My truck moved with 5.29's and 33's. Since going to 35's it's not as fun to drive.
I almost want to try to find a set of 255/85R16's for the desert. It would make things so much funner with a smaller tire. If I could fit a 15" wheel I'd try to get my hands on some Class 10 BFG KR2's. They are 35x10.50x15. That would be pretty sweet in the desert due to the lighter weight. But 33's wouldn't be a bad idea in the desert. Or just do a 4.7 V8 swap :p

Pretty sure we can't fit 15s with Tundra brakes though...

that's interesting. thanks for the info. I just drove 100 miles on the freeway to a karate tournament for my boys to participate in tomorrow morning and at 80mph (gps) I am at 3400 rpm. shows 72 on speedo.

That’s why I was saying “if I could fit 15’s”. I’d love to find a way to have 15” wheels but still have good brakes. I don’t have the Tundra brake upgrade on mine but my stock rotors don’t fit 15’s either.

That really is weird. Someone blew that install I’m guessing
Yup...my guess too. Yotamasters did my first one..smoked the gears in less than 8k..they didnt warranty (gave me a little discount) but I paid for them to do it again....this time it made it a whole 25k before this bearing blew up...go figure :( Hopefully this one will last longer as I had a very very experienced guy do the work.

Looks like they’re setting the carrier bearing offroad really fucking high, or there’s really weird pinion/ring gear contact and they’re actually pushing into each other.

What’s the backlash like on the new one? And pinion rotating torque?

1: What tire size? 315/75/16. **Edit to add Cooper STT Pros on a SCS 16x8 wheel**

2: What gears are you running? 4.88

3: What brand gears? Nitro

4: Why did you choose these gears? I went with them from research and reputation.

5: Engine and tranny configuration(auto/manual). Stock 3.4 V6 with Auto.

Had the gears since September and the tires since October. Tub job finally going down this weekend if all goes well. I think they are a good fit. I don't drive super fast anyway. It's Washington state... Too much traffic to drive fast. LOL.

Do you at any time wish you went 5.29s for that extra oomf? Did you have 35s prior to regear?
