Do you at any time wish you went 5.29s for that extra oomf? Did you have 35s prior to regear?

I'm not really getting the feeling that I wish I went with 5.29 instead of my 4.88s. I got gears before I got 35s. I would say it might have felt a bit more "sporty" with my smaller 285/75/16 BFG KO2s. I feel like it's a pretty good match for me, but I am not really a fast driver. It hangs in there through the passes out here. It's no sports car though.

Ok gang, I'm looking for some advise in gears because I just blew my rear (stock gears). I have the 4.7 rolling on 35's. I'm thinking 4.88's but am unsure now that I have read this thread.:noidea: I want to buy once, cry once (until I break again) and throw in an air locker F/R. What do you guys recommend?

I see a lot of guys have gone through ECGS. Does anyone recommend anyone else or someone close to SoCal? I emailed Just Differentials asking for availability and pricing but haven't gotten a reply yet.

Also thoughts on DIY, taking it to someone or just ordering a 3rd...

Any help is appreciated.

Might be able to get away with 4.56 on the V8. Highly recommend ECGS. They stand by their warranty, and it's good peace of mind for 5 years. Customer service is fucking top notch.

I've seen some say the 4.56's are better for the V8 but then others say the 4.88's are great. I've read a lot on the T4R forum but for some reason i have a feeling most of those guys stay on pavement....

Depends on your goals with the vehicle. What are your stock gears? Going from 4.10 to 4.56 seems like a waste to me.
If you are mostly driving on the highway, then yeah 4.56 might be good for gas mileage but we also don't own these vehicles to worry about mileage as top priority. If you like to play in the dirt, then go 4.88's for sure. That little extra RPM on the highway won't be that bad, but the little extra in the dirt is always nice. Shit I would even consider 5.29 if it was a vehicle that was predominantly used for the dirt and not so much the road.
On my 3rd gen 4runner, I am going 5.29's with 33's because it sees more dirt time than highway time.

@Toxicity927 Premier West in Corona. They can knock out front and rear diffs in 3hrs.

Gear ratios all depend on tire size and use. @AssBurns covered it. I am on 4.88s Nitros with 35" and its like stock again. My truck is setup for baja prerunner speeds.

I'm pretty sure the stock gears are 3.73. It is my daily so I am on the highway often but not too worried about mileage. The dash says I'm around 12.5 mpg now.

4.7 Tundra here on 4:56 and 34 on heavy steelies. The older 4speed auto. If id did it again I'd do 4.88 or beyond. Current setup is lower than stock, but needs a bit more umph to gain back my uphill highway passing ability.

Warranty: 1 year on parts and labor (known for good customer service)

Why then? I know plenty of people who have blown out gears from ECGS during the 5 year warranty and they've never batted an eye on replacements. ECGS has given me parts for free even though I admitted to fucking up the install. Their customer service and satisfaction is top notch.

No, you're recommending a company that's local that does some work but doesn't match the quality and warranty that we would expect for those of us that actually use our vehicles.

Premier West Gears: https://premierwestgears.com

there is group buy thing on another tacoma forum that I used to get a deal. Their schedule is usually months out.

You recommended them twice.

"You should use Premier West" is not in any of those quotes.
"i used them" "others have used them" "they took 3hrs to do my front and rear" those are not recommendations. those are facts.
you are recommending ecgs because reasons. whatever danny, I don't give a shit and just happy to give this person some info that they asked for. :flipoff:
