This weekend I got a slash in my sidewall from a piece of rebar sticking out of a block, so I ordered two new tires this morning. I called my normal tire shop to get pricing, but they said they couldn't get them anymore due to the manufacturer placing a stop on all distribution on a national level. He didn't know much more beyond that, but he guessed that they may be coming out with a new model of some sort? Anyone heard anything of this? I'd be bummed if they stopped making the MT/R's but if they found a way to improve an already impressive tire, then I guess there is nothing to complain about.

Damnit that reminds me that I need to call Discount and get a new KM2 to replace the brand fucking new KM2 I just put on in September. 2 trips and I managed to take a rock to the inner sidewall hard enough to puncture it. Hopefully I don't end up with a KM3 or I'll be mismatched.

4 wheel parts might have these in stock for a little bit.

If I end up with a KM3 I might just buy a second one then throw the other pretty much new KM2 on my spare.

edit: I have the certificate at Discount Tire, so it's a free replacement essentially. Cost me like 30 bucks to put the cert back on the new tire.

well this makes my decision to go with a new tire (and maybe size) easier. I agree that other than my PBR's I had on my crawler they are the best tire I've had to crawl with. But I must have gotten a set of egg shaped ones because I never got then to balance or roll well on the highway. But super sticky for a dot tire. I may have to see what they are coming out with as well. I really want PBR radials but they are just so damn expensive. I'm jealous of @theesotericone, I might say 35's if I could swing a set of PBR's but there is no way I'm dropping 2k+ on 37's.

Lol. No it's 3 Ply.

According to this, D rated tires are 8 ply.

https://www.sttc.com/resources/tire-info/ply-rating/

According to everything else, the KM2 has a 3 ply construction that's supposed to be 33% stronger.

Whatever. I've bounced these things off rocks at 50 mph and never sliced a sidewall open. I was running a little higher PSI than I normally do though so maybe that contributed to it. It's not even a slice, it's more of a puncture, so either it was a really sharp fucking rock or I hit something else. There was a lot of debris where we camped and it was shortly after we left camp that it was completely flat.

Ply rating is the amount of layers in the tread belting.
Side wall ply is the amount of belting in the sidewall.

They have always been and always will be different. You're not the first rookie to make this mistake.

Most offroad tires have 3 ply polyester sidewall.

Yep, did not know that. Or never paid attention. Or knew and forgot in a whiskey induced state of mind. I just know the KM2s don't typically have sidewall issues.

Well then you missed the boat. Every year Pit Bull Tires do a 50% off sale. Just wait until next year to keep an eye out for the sale.

Wow I didn't realize that they did that. I'm not sure my MTR's will last another year, but maybe. LOL. So do they do it the same time every year? probably in October, right?

I didn't either until @AssBurns sent me a link to the FarseBook page. Got the code, put the tires in my cart, entered code and saved 50 percent. There is no way in hell I would have payed full price for these things but 1/2 price puts them cheaper then most of the competition.

I DIDN'T MISS IT!!!! Went to the facebook page and saw the code that was good till midnight tonight. Blazed through the process and the code was still good. Woke up my wife as I didn't want to be murdered tomorrow. Quick discussion and got the go ahead and placed the order. My confirmation email say's that my order was placed at 11:58pm. I can not tell you guys how happy I am right now. Thank you guys. I loved my PBR's that I had on my 85 crawler and I know I will love these. Now the question is will they be here before the January. And I guess I am staying with 35's but I am not complaining

Nice work. I ordered mine on Oct 1st and they got here on the 30th. I'd say you have a pretty good shot at getting them by January. Did you get the radial or bias?

As far as the wife things goes. If I ever woke up my wife and said "Hey babe, I need to spend a ton of cash on the rig" I'd be dead before the lights went on. lol

I got the Radials. This is still my daily driver so it had to be drivable by both me and my wife. If I go out of town for business we trade vehicles and she rolls in Smokey and I drive her '07 ES350.

My wife is awesome! She had bought me gifts in the past of things like Longfield super axles for Valentines day, my front bumper for my birthday. She surprised me 2 years ago for my birthday with a sport hood for the Runner. I do definitely now need to sell my 2000 5speed with rear locker. We don't need 2 and now I have a credit card payment to make.
