Ended up breaking two axles over two days of wheeling, along with discovering the lower A arm bushings are shot, tie rod boot on the driver side is destroyed, ball joint bolts are crustier than I suspected. This is an IFS forum, somebody talk me out of doing a SAS.

SAS. Actually, build a buggy. It's better then SAS'ing a 3rd Gen 4Runner and might be cheaper in the long run. Look into the 22re propane conversions and get on it. That's my plan. Leave the 4Runner for easier trails and build a buggy for the hard ones.

I’ve been considering it for awhile, I think I’d have to sell the runner to fund it / justify it, but it’s an option that’s always on my mind.

Me too. I don't know if I could sell my rig though. To much blood, sweat and beers have gone into it and to many good times have been had in it. If I became financially burdened I'd sell it but I'm not. So I'm just saving for the buggy build and beating the shit out of my rig in the meantime. lol

Well after discovering several issues with the front end I guess it’s time to go through the front end again. As much as I’d love a set of RCVs they aren’t in the cards, I’m looking at a couple different options at this point I’d be happy with a couple OEM shafts that seem to be made of unobtainium in the south east.

Just buy a real axle. It's work but you won't be changing fucking CVs every time you sneeze wrong.

Take a ride to your local pick-a-part and cut the front axle out from the first super duty ford you see.

I’m taking recommendations

There was a guy in Arizona that had matching LC axles. Dunno if he still has them and can't remember who it was though. I'm half tempted sometimes to SFA, but I have neither the skills nor the money to do it.

@4runner DOA I might have finally found a set of OEM axles, hopefully I can pull them tomorrow.
I think about doing a solid axle under mine all the time and keep talking myself out of it.

eBay is your friend. I find oem axles all the time with torn boots for cheap with free shipping. Then I just reboot them..

I’m a moron, I don’t ever think to check eBay for that kinda shit... searching now.

Car parts is about the only thing I use it for. A lot of the pick a part places use it to part out vehicles these days.
