NFS really needs to be more clear about the firewood collection policies on the website. Might have changed now, but it used to read like you needed a permit. Which you do if you're cutting down trees for home use, but collecting deadfall is completely legal according to the rangers I've talked to and they actually encourage it. Had one ranger send me down the road from camp to a clearing just littered with downed trees once. With all the overlanders taking over the forests the ground would be clear in less than a year.

I’m going to be able to sleep while camping

I‘ve looked at that setup and like it a lot. Think I’ll end up with a hybrid though with that tray on the driver side, a Rago battery tray behind the right headlight, and move the air pump to where the second battery goes in your kit. Some folks who are out on tough trails have described metal fatigue in the fender-mounted trays. I like the Redarc, though. Cool device.

PA charges like $10/cord if you cut it in the state forests. We always did whatever we wanted when we were camping.

I've got a heavy ass marine deep cell battery on a home made mount on my passenger fender. I've jumped my truck by accident a handful of times and I'm not seeing any cracking or deformation yet. I probably have mine mounted a little differently than mostly set ups do it though. I've been running like this for 3 1/2 going on 4 years in April.

That’s good to know. Install is a lot easier that way, then.

As soon as I get back to the States I will. Plan is to cut track on buttermilk loop new years day. I cut it before I left but we got another 2 feet or so. It was already really deep. Now it's going to be stupid. You should come up and run it with me.
I wish. I’ll be in Ocotillo next weekend, so heading north won’t be something possible for me right now. I still want to get up there and play in the snow with you one of these days. Maybe in February or March if I have time.

Lol. I'm not grouchy at all. I just find a lot of shit funny that you don't. Like the fact that a "hardcore" wheeling forum if full of fucking overlanders.

This. vvvvv

Only one person has been calling this place “hardcore” from the beginning

It's always meant to have been an in between two/t4r and pirate Bay. The people needed a place to find the info to take their wheeling to the next step, along with the experienced people to get them there. If we get overlanders and get them converted to something more, along with fixing bad habits like camping in overly large groups, then this forum has done its job.

Never understood large group camping trips.
Went with a group once and they just wanted to get fucking wasted and sleep in until 0900.
im all for a good time but I’m not getting outside of civilization just to get drunk and sleep.
I wanna explore, see the sunrise from a perspective I haven’t had a chance to yet.
idk, I’m more of a solo camper I suppose.

4 rigs is just about perfect, IMO. Enough to have good conversation, have spares and recovery gear/options. Not so many you sit in traffic all day.

The last hardcore wheeler I had was my 1973 W250. I would take that thing any place it would fit, and places it should not fit. I tried my best to not get stuck, but when I did nothing a winch, a high lift jack, snow chains, shovel, chain link fence sections and a 14 lb maul would not fix. When I sold it off the body was so beat to hell. But never once did it leave me stranded for mechanical issues. Dana 70's front and rear NP 203 case, the 5.87 gears sucked ass with a 727 at hwy speeds. I bought the truck in 1990 with 33K on it, a bad case of field mice and rust. Gosh I miss that ugly pile of Tiger Lilly Prospector Package pile of crap.

I did the large group thing when I first started out. Slowly but surely I started figuring out who I didn't want to camp/wheel with and started migrating towards the runs with the people I did. Eventually I broke away from it completely and started figuring out what I wanted out of wheeling in general. I'm still figuring out what I want but I've whittled my groups down to either who I really want to camp/shoot with or who I really want to be on a major trail with if shit goes wrong. Sometimes that goes hand in hand and most of the local fuckers put up with my shit for some reason or another so that's who I go out with now.
