how thick is your tank skid!? mine is maybe 50lbs and its full 3/16 steel

Also found these, which may work great, but they're also way too damn expensive.

Or maybe the rears from a JK. The fronts don't look like they would sit in our coil buckets properly.

Well there’s your problem... get rid of that tank and skid
Soon. Need to build that LT kit first

I wonder how springs similar to these would be/do? Not sure if they would be too tall?

https://www.metalcloak.com/JK-Wrangler-2-5-Front-Coil-Spring-Dual-Rate-p/7058.htm

Pretty sure JK coils give about a 1” lift, so those 2.5” lift coils would net about 3.5” of lift on a 3rd gen t4r. I’d think they would work if you have a ton of down travel and need a tall free height. As long as you are looking for 3.5” or so of lift.

Actually, what is interesting, that maybe we haven't considered it that those coils will compress on the axle side first. Probably wouldn't matter in flexing. For some reason I feel like this would lead to interesting handling characteristics, but maybe not.

I wouldn’t think it would make any difference. It’s not like a coilover where you need the upper spring to compress first.

those are interesting... I nominate @AssBurns to test them.

I can’t use them. Too tall of a compressed length. I can only use a max of like 4.5-5” compressed length because of how high I set my bumps. These are 8” compressed height.

If you uys need any
I figured I’d start a thread informing some other about these coils that I’m running. I haven’t seen anyone else use these on a 4runner before me, so I thought I’d share.

So my problem for a while has been that I had too much lift in the rear with my LC 8 wraps, but couldn’t find a coil that would work because everything that gave about 2" lift had too short of a coil free height and would just fall out. So I started my search for a coil that had a much softer spring rate and a tall free height. Well I think I found the most qualified option for this issue.

I used front coils off of a 2018 Jeep JL 4 door. These netted me about 2” of lift and is just about the right free height I need. They are about 1/2” shorter than my 8 wraps but a much softer spring rate. The improved handling is much better with this setup than the 4” lift I was getting with the 8 wraps.

I know @4Running Daily is using these on his rig as well. Maybe he can chime in on how he likes them.

Keep in mind, I know a plastics fabricator that can build custom rubber coil isolators that can take up ANY gap we need to prevent the springs from falling out.

Might give us a better spring options other than the JL springs.

Thread resurrection, for those that do have the JL springs, can you see if the part tag is still attached and what the 2 numbers are before the letters on them? There are a several different springs between the sport and Rubicon version, and they will result in different lift heights obviously.

The pair I got are 68253659AC , 68253658AC . They fit, gave me about 22" from center of hub to fender flare. The factory bump stop / isolater does not fit but the springs fit the frame mount without it. They appear to be extremely soft but I haven't driven it yet.

Yeah they are very soft which is great if you want minimal lift and need something that has a taller coil free height.

I saw on your build thread you went back to LC coils. Were you not happy with the JL springs or did you switch for more lift?

I have a lot more weight in the rear now so I needed more lift for ground clearance and up travel. I have the spare tire, bumper, fuel tank, fuel tank skid, battery, tool box, ice chest, compressor, gear, etc. Before I had the spare tire and battery in the rear it worked pretty well. That extra 150lbs made enough of a difference to make me need a little more spring rate.
