Hey all,

John Bull (3N10) can be done with IFS, 33” tires and just a rear locker.

Line choice and rock stacking will be your friend though. Really only needed to move rocks a lot for the gate keeper, past that better line choice is key but a few rocks were moved here and there.

Learn two foot driving. You’ll need the added traction as most of this trail is a silty consistency over rock, and that silt is slick.

Have winches strategically placed within your group, you may not need it, but the guy in front of or behind you might.

Oh and your armor will get fucked. Both sliders were heavily used, skids heavily used, and bumpers touched at least a few times.

Nice truck! Did JB on 33s the first time without issue, dual locked tho. Since then I’ve been through a few times on 35s and taken groups through with guys on 33s and one locker, from what I remember we haven’t had to use a winch on them except maybe once.

We’re taking a group thru this weekend, will report back! It’ll be my first time thru with the LT kit

Thanks man! Was a fucking fun trail! Hard, but fun!

We had three who needed a winch. One 1st gen on 33” dual locked, one 2nd gen on 33” rear locked, and a 2nd gen on 35” rear locked.

Have a good time running it with the LT!

From right around the tree trunk in your 5th picture to the top of that hill was the most intense shit I have ever done off road. I had a '71 Land Cruiser with a carb'd Chevy 350 that did not want to stay on while being on any incline. Between no power steering and firing it up with the gas pedal down and immediately dumping the clutch while being in some stupid angle on a boulder to move 2' before dying, it made for the worst experience ever.

That was the day I learned why you always drive with the hands at 9 and 3 o'clock, or the steering wheel will break your wrists.

Haha damn must have been a wild ride! Sounds like a cool rig.

Just before that hill (I think it was before) was the most frustrated I’ve been. There was a stupid little waterfall that for some reason caused a headache for me and the black 1st gen. Trucks just wanted to spin and not climb.

Hell, most of that trail is all shit I’ve had asked for a spotter before, but it was never ending and just had to eyeball and try to remember where all the rocks are and best guess tire placement. Had we stopped to spot we may still be out there haha.

Yep, 9 and 3. None of that 10 and 2 nonsense.

Welcome to the wonderful world of crawling. If you don't ask for a spotter, you'll end up stuck, or breaking things (like me :anon:) Of course it's an unsaid rule that if you're in the lead, you don't ask for a spotter, which also causes people to get stuck. Haha. I'm free in January (Maybe December), where are we gonna go get stuck? :spy:

Hahaha obviously there’s a time and a place for a spotter, this was a time to nut up and do it.

Fuck if I know. I only have two pre-planned trips right now.
Mojave Rd mid November and then @madtaco461 ’s Superstition Tree burning in January

You didn't hear us talking about the curse of the leader on motino? Me, Matt, and Andy all got stuck while in lead. Haha.
Yeah I remember that now. I was in the rear pretty much the whole time. I never got stuck. Thinking about it, @rkntoy never got stuck on our Dusy trip either, and he was always in the rear. I think you guys are onto something here!

I like being in back and seeing what other folks do. Then I can decide if I see a better line or what I think to be a BETTER line. I may not get stuck but one of my BETTER lines in the rock garden earned me a collapsed link mount and a bent rear axle shaft flange. Fortunately the axle housing seems to be good.

I don't mind being in front and you do get stuck more. Someone has to send it to show everyone else what not to do.

I positioned myself in the middle on this one so I had a winch in front and behind me. But I do like running caboose to see what people do and make an educated decision on my own line from it.

Daaaamn! Glad your axle is alright (as far as you know).

Hahaha I’ve only lead in my old 2wd taco. Have yet to attempt some hard stuff as lead in my 4x4.
