Are you reading about another tacoma build on some interyank forum website?? Please, take a moment to evaluate your life before continuing on.

Long story short:
I've wanted a Toyota pickup since seeing Back to the Future on the "big" screen. Got one and here we are.

Longer story:
Wanted a used but decent Tacoma to build on, but prices are what they are so for a few grand more, bought a new 2014 Double Cab Short Bed 4x4 Off-Road from Crown Toyota in Ontario, CA. Used a shopping technique gleaned from "Fighting Chance" car buying method. Pitted all the SoCal dealers against each other via email/phone bidding war. Best way to buy a car ever.

Since we are all creatures with our curiosity being our undoing, I discovered the off-road forums and oh my the possibilities and fractal patterns that appeared in my minds eye. This is my daily driver but the goal is/was, daily for a few years and then graduate it to full fun truck.

Graduation day is coming 2020... stay tuned.

new rear seat deck under work. Making a lot of wood dust... progress feels like its glacial.

Everything gets tied down. Period. Not a problem now. Metal staves underneath making a sandwich of ply between the L track and backer. have to design some way to mount it up now. It's bolting on where seats did.

backside: 1/4" stout. finger for scale

note: routing not perfect. shut it. fucker is a handful in plywood. wife said no cnc machine so that's that.

another pic of the track and my shame

That's why you make an inner and outer jig from plywood. Then pin nail the jigs in place. Then route. There's no way you can fuck up. Free hand is for rookies. lol

was using a straight edge and a clamp that I hadn't tightened all the way down slipped off. oops.

it's gonna get puttied and epoxy deck paint over it. meant to be used. access panel will be with alum flat stock as a lip. it also sits proud of that edge, no catching.

Also curious to hear how much of a pain in the ass that is to install. There's not a lot of room to play with when swapping racks.

I'm a terrible welder and JD will do the install. These parts are too nice and too important for a n00b. I have ideas for a roll bar, bed cap internal support and frame stuff I'll undertake. Know your limits.

81trekker's pics and prototype. It's still on the jig but heimed and baller. Stellar work. I'm so grateful for getting race stuff for the common man.
