Truck isn't even done and planning phase 2:

Cage, 9" spidertraxx (edit: or Currie) (con todo), supercharger and some other fun things tba.

Gonna drive it over the winter and then build on it again next year. Have full time employment coming, so the truck budget is growing.

Hoping end of Nov or early Dec. Depends on the laser cutter service and getting time for the remaining bits, SUA and maybe some inner fenders. There's something screwy with the serpentine belt alignment, was missing almost a whole rib and I think the timing cover needs to be done before it gets ridden harder. Regear is supposed to happen early December. So much to do still.

Don’t waste your time with a SC. Save that money for a motor swap. Mo powa and more aftermarket support.

How many swaps can be done for less than 5k for more than 300hp? I'm genuinely interested in a power plant swap and agree its a lot for a little gain but the motor swap is expensive and I don't need the temptations of 400+hp.

I get that the LS is a good powerplant with a lot of aftermarket, but why don't people try to make their Toyota's Toyota V8 powered?

In a Tacoma would a stock 4.7 or 5.7 not be better than stock 4.0?

If you are going to bother with a swap and all that it entails, why bother with even a 5.7?
LS make better power and return better MPG.
Edit: I have a SC'ed 4.0

Ok. I just hear everyone saying ls swap all the time. I like my Toyota powered by Toyota and enjoy only popping the hood for oil changes.

that's what I like about the magnuson. warranty, carb certified, parts, lots of people run them. not ideal but more sane than a big swap project. bolts on in a day.

if this were to become a green sticker truck, ya junk yard v8 and booger welding for sure.

I'm looking for a towable lil rock truck for local bs and keeping the taco for more open range driving. First and foremost is hunting down a 2003 M5. That's my unicorn.

How much will it cost you to get a 4.0 V6 to break 300hp with a SC? By the time you do all the supporting mods it'll end up being in the same price range as a motor swap. But a motor swap will start at 300hp and a few hundred HP to gain with relative ease if you really want it.
Everyone that I've seen with a SC (at least on the 3.4) says it's pretty underwhelming for the cost and after all the performance upgrades it really ends up just nickel and diming the shit outta you for minimal gain. If you really wanna keep the stock toyota motor and gain valuable performance gains then a turbo would likely be a better bet.

It's expensive and lots of custom stuff like cams n shit will kill your budget (4 sets of custom cams gets pretty fucking expensive) . Plus shit MPG of toyota motors and relatively low power is a big turn off.

or D-4D swap? hmm. was my first dream, combined with an atlas or marlin transfer case, lockers and 9" currie.

I'm sleuthing engine swaps online and ehh...
Maybe find a donor 4.0L and build it out?
A sweet toyota v8 would be great...if they would fit.
t100 v8 (same frame) are anemic at best. (sorry meant tundra 1st gen)

would like to mention, CA/CARB says same year or newer engine from a similar platform.

Engine changes are legal in California as long as a number of requirements are met. One, the engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle. Also, the engine must be from the same type of vehicle based on the vehicle's gross weight. For example, you can't put an engine for a heavy duty truck in a passenger car, or vice versa. Additionally, all emissions control equipment has to stay on the installed engine. And if the car is a California certified vehicle, then the engine has to be California certified, as well.

Japanese Replacements
The Air Resources Board allows engines that are Japanese imports to be used as replacement engines as long as the engine being installed is functionally identical to the original. If you have a Japanese imported engine, you should refer to the engine importers catalog to determine if it can be legally installed in your car.
