#minetoo except it also pulls cooler air than the engine bay. :anon:
It's not solved by doing a snorkle. The heat soaked intake tube and UMP body is heating the air. Infrared readings werenthr same on the intake tube as the valve covers. Will probably get some insulation and ducting.

Cowl induction works pretty well also. Unless the hood is vented then you are sucking the hit air in that escapes the hood

this is what I'll probably do but will need to insulate and put in some shielding/box it in.

What is the point of routing the air intake to the cowl area? There will be more questions and perhaps comments to follow.

to get the coldest/cleanest air possible. the stock location on the inner fender is shit. There's a thread over on TW about this mod. Lets you use stock filter/intake.

Do you think you would be following some one where an intake in the grill would be too dirty? If so wouldn't the air be dirty every where? I agree the wheel well would always be dirty. I just don't see how the air around the cowl area would be any cleaner. Perhaps just route to a hole in the hood directly above UMP intake. Where is Harry routing the intake on the "81Trekker"?

I think the reason you don’t want it in the grill is the dirt and rain has a direct path into the intake, whereas if it’s behind something like the fender or hood, the heavier particles are falling while only the finer dust makes it into the intake.

I think rain would be a non issue especially if the opening had a bit of shield. As far as dust goes was that not the point of going with the UMP and its volume and filtering capacity. I don't believe Kasnerd has any intention of racing. No requirement to follow closely behind someone. Most of any dust created should be behind him.

The UMP is pretty resilient and not worried unless the water gets up to that level, which will be never hopefully.
