Since my 3RZ 4Runner is mostly used in the road and sand dunes i've been thinking seriously about buying a lighter flywheel and maybe remove the balance shafts so the engine feels lighter and work less stressed, right now it performs pretty good for what it is but i don't want to do any mods that makes it perform worse, and i've read a lot about the benefits of heavier flywheels to help the engine to keep inertia, but i'm not quite sure if it could play against me considering that dune riding, at least in my case, is a full throttle job almost all the time.
Opinions appreciated

It comes down to preference. I'm a lazy shifter so for me I wouldn't want a light weight flywheel. You'll have to rev up the motor more from a dead stop to take off. Also you'll need to shift pretty fast between gears to stay on the power. With a heavy flywheel you can be even more lazy. Helps kick around larger than stock tires with ease. Good maintenance and that motor will keep treating you well. They just seem a bit angry at high rpms. It's just the cams are designed for more low end grunt.
