If we could get LTDSC to join this forum, he could make us all look bad with his detail and coating knowledge

I mean I've got a collection of polish, wax, sealers, and an orbital buffer with a variety of pads. If I wanted the runner to look nice I could do so. Curious how this stuff would hold up to repeated abuse of brush and branches.

True, I'm not that invested in it. The polish I have is magical though. Shit works wonders on deep scratches but you have to do a 3-4 stage treatment with it. Heavy, medium, fine, wax/sealant. The reality of it is that he keeps his rig fairly treated which helps in the cleaning process as a whole. If you only wax your rig once every 2 years (like me, haha) you're going to be hitting more paint than wax layers which makes it harder to clean up. The 4runner is mostly a lost cause for paint right now but it is nice to watch the dust/mud/dirt come right off if we hit some rain. I'll never win a car show, that's for sure.

I've never even washed my rig much less polished it. Lol

I've washed mine twice since May. Once was when I put my SR8s on and the rig was so dirty it just didn't feel right to put brand new wheels on without it being clean. That was the first time in a year. The second time I washed it was after a trip to Big Bear in August because I was covered in mud and it was clumped on everything. Alternatively, fuck my neighbors, so I made sure mud coming off the rig was ending up all over their shiny clean white jeep.

I do want to get the current layer of Death Valley mud off because a lot of that dirt has a ton of salts and minerals in it, plus I'll be working on it soon and I don't want that shit falling all over my face while I'm under it. That's going to more of a power wash the mud off vs cleaning it though.

I did a ceramic coating on my paint earlier this year. I seemed to held up stock brush fairly well and definitely made cleaning a whole lot easier. I could tell when I needed to do it again because my wash time went from like 5 minutes to a hour lol. Watching it clean itself in the rain was awesome too

Nice. Seems kinda gimicky. My hood is probably the only panel not completely destroyed right now so I might give this a try for fun.

Fuck me. Somehow I ordered 5 fucking bottles. When the wife finds out I'll be shinning my ass and ball with it. :headwall:. Guess who is going to have the shiniest Prius in all of Tucson. My wife that's who.

I dont really think its gimicky. The coating lasted way longer than a regular waxing, and it definitely helped protect the paint some from lighter scratches. I also didnt use a super high-end coating, some of the higher end coatings are designed to last years instead of months, but I will definitely be doing it again in the spring. I like having pant thats easy to clean off.

I don't do paint corrections for my profession but I know my way around a vehicle doing paint corrections and coatings.

I've done close to 80-90 full paint corrections for friends/family members/ people who people know that need a good paint refresh and detail over the last 10 years. So other than not doing it day in and day out I would call myself a 7/10 on the profession scale especially based against you mouth breathers that don't know how to turn a hose on to your trucks .

I have experienced a good bit with "high tech" coatings over the last few years since they have been on the market.

DO NOT!

I repeat

DO NOT!

Waste your money on the stupid instagram/fb/myspace heavily advertised bullshit nano ceramic coatings specifically the hydrosilex and f11 top coat. those are gimiky AF. its a damn spray wax. It's designed to resist water right after you spray it on just like they do in the video. After one trip to the mud and a wash after, that BS coating would be gone.

If you dont know what a random orbital polisher, cutting/polishing compound or clay bar is or don't know how to use all 3 of those I would find a buddy that does.

Paint work and protection is all in the prep work the removing oxidation and contaminants from your vehicles paint before you apply a wax/sealant/ceramic coating. If you start with a dusty ass, bird shit laden paint job you will end up with sub par results if you try and use one of these paint coating products.

There are some good youtube videos on good coatings to get you up to speed on what you need to know.

I ceramic coated the vertical surfaces (hood, roof, trunk) on my onyx black B7 A4 Audi last month before the snow started to fly here in Utah, for the few mornings I've had to push snow and ice off my car it has been a miracle!

Black paint can be a nightmare to keep clean and I'm not meaning just left the spin car wash clean I mean swirl free, with a good true ceramic coating you can have a dark colored vehicle be swirl and scratch free even after taking offraod and getting it super dusty and dirty and taking a dry towel to it!

My Tacoma is black, I know the pain all too well. It's the reason I bought an orbital to begin with.

To late. I do however do all of that other stuff once a year to my vehicles. I was hoping that this would last a little longer especially after a trip like this. IMG_20180908_170501408.jpg
